now now Lok Town have only ever changed there name once ,from Eastbourne fc, to the now Eastbourne Town fc. Aside from still being quite bemused that a pre-season friendly has generated such lengthy posts, I feel compelled to don my pedant's hat: 'Lok' is in fact correct (and I speak having spent some time recently researching the history of Eastbourne Town & The Saffrons for a forthcoming feature in 'Groundtastic' magazine). The club was formed in 1881 as Devonshire Park FC (and it would appear it is even older, as it's history can be traced back to two other clubs: Eastbourne FC & Eastbourne Rovers FC, who merged to form Eastbourne United FC, no not that one!). This would appear to make it the oldest continuously existing club in Sussex. The name changed to Eastbourne FC in 1889, and finally became Eastbourne Town FC as recently as 1971.

Despite suggesting responses should now no longer be given I must respond to matters regarding fact: My view re: 2 name changes is based on the little knowledge I have regarding Towns history drawn from discussions with others and Towns own website : www.eastbournetownfc.com/about-eastbourne-town-fc-.htmlI think the 1st paragraph says it all. I however bow to the knowledge of Mr be. It appears more than 2 name changes may be applicable to Eastbourne Town. The 3rd paragraph of the Town website also describes a 'close' amalgamation. Lets be pedantic shall we, it does say close but again the roots of the opinion have come from the clubs own website. I read your view with interest re: attendances. You may very well be right re: the cost of football at BSP level. I'm sure, as amongst the cheapest in the league, this has been considered at Boardroom level and the attendances are yet to be seen. I note however that season ticket sales at Priory Lane are booming, augers well I think. Also, what is the %age increase at The Saffrons this year. Around 50% I believe ! I have no idea why you refer to United throughtout your response. I have no problem with Eastbourne United Assoc. I have no intention of re-running my view of Eastbourne Town and have never wished any club out of existence as you seem to imply re: 'supplying' football within the Town. I may only be a girl but I do understand that a football club needs other clubs to play against. I only hope those clubs have decent fans and welcome others, as I have found at the vast majority of non-league grounds - getting close to 100 now. I would ask you to note that my original post was with reference to the behaviour of Town supporters at our recent 'friendly'. A discussion, amongst all your words, that is not condemned but dismissed as 1 fan after a few beers. Also I hope that still being under 40 I have a fair chance of seeing 100 years, with luck and a following wind - and yes, I do still have over 30 years of watching Langney/Boro. ;D
