The biggest worry is Siguere. He looks like a lazy 'make weight' hardly out to set a good first impression. He needs to look at Atkin or Jenkins for an example or 'ship out' On the first train to ANYWHERE. Incredible. One pre-season friendly and already most people are writing off the rest of the season. The criticism of Sigere is astonishing. He was severely lacking match fitness but that would be due to being out with a serious injury for most of last season. He ran himself into the ground chasing balls and while he should have scored more than the cheeky penalty, his size and general difficulty to handle means he could be a perfect option off the bench in the BSP.

well some interesting thoughts and I guess it shows the passion and to some extent the anxiety as reality as to the league that we now find ourselves in.kicks in.I too was at the game last night and frankly think it is far to early to be drawing any informed conclusions. On the good news front I had a chat with Hooky, and he had sustained an injury to his arm when trying to get back into his house having locked himself out.No it wasn't three in the morning and yes he was sober.!!He was trying to open a sash window and put his arm through the glass. He was very lucky as an inch either way meant he could have been out for the season.Anyway he is well on the mend and is confident that he will be back in training soon. I don't think Garry and Nick enjoyed the second half much and I sense a real determination to succeed.I know that last night a number of players from the reserves and under 18s were released and I my guess is that the same will happen to the first tam squad if players don.t cut it.This though is not the time to be getting at players, let the weeks unfold and then lets see where we are. Finally the eastbourne town fans at the end,as far as I could see a few youngsters bevied up.Up the Boro.

I am thinking that 'ran himself into the ground' is more than a small overstatement. It was his lack of effort not lack of fitness that most concerned those around the Boro dugout including N & G. No one is writing off the season after one match but several others in the Boro squad were clearly more "up for it". I am sure that overall there is more than enough ability in the squad to cope in in the BSP.

Well he seemed to be putting in effort from where I was watching! He didn't see much of the ball to be fair (bearing in mind he played up front in a half which Boro lost 4-1!)

For the guy who said it was out of order for town fans to boo the borough of the pitch i would say look at all local derbys, is this not so. I personally hope boro come straight back down again, i am a town fan and thats football. Do yop think Liverpool would want Everton to do well , Arsenal Tottenham.Thats football. I noticed no fans were singing last nite?

I noticed no fans were singing last nite? Booing the opposition at a pre-season [be]friendly[/be] ... played for the benefit of a Town player: how sad and small-minded is that? Nothing wrong with a bit of light-hearted animosity during a competitive local derby but it's ironic given that both Ady Colwell and many of the Town players have been at Priory Lane at some point in their careers.

I am sure you guys come along for Brockers benifit. I expect nearly all you guys jumped on the Boro bandwagon when they started going up the divisions. Still if you pumped some of the money from grants into tour community club perhaps your girls/ladies teams would not of stormed of. Mind you , if you don't play in the first team you have to play on the over spill car park. Down town every one plays on the main pitch.

ok,ok enoughs enough .I know the people at Town, and i know they were very grateful for Borough playing last nite .Yes you always get a bit of banter and rivalry between local clubs, and it makes it a more spicier occassion .However last night was a FRIENDLY game of football played between two teams, and not once did i see the players go over the top etc.Im sure both sides got a lot out of the exercise ,some players were clearly short of match fitness and only playing in 90 minute games will bring them back to the peak of physical fitness,we hope ! One last thing,i was in the stand at the end, when the players came off,it was only really one individual who had clearly had a few to drink that shouted his mouth off ,and if the borough supporters were upset by that ,you have got a big shock coming when you visit the more northern teams this year ,remember Kings Lynn??

the need for new defenders has now been addressed, in the second half we watched as school boy defending ruined a good first half performance ! dominic douglas and andy ballard just didnt work together and I don't feel either one would be prem standard anyway, thought the triallist left bak looked good though, nice to see atkin netting goals as usual! but not sure who he's going to be playing up front with as allan tait, well let's not even go there! didn't look good , but worryingly sigere looked a lazier version of rambo and looked very uncomfortable on the ball and a liablility really, good also to see chris winterton between the sticks in the 1st half , I definately think he can cut it! but now is not the time to make judgements as it's only the first game, however their is much evidence to be worried for the season ahead, especially at the back! let's hope it get's fixed and we get some signings in asap The team for the 2nd half is hardly going to be a starting lineup for this season. Who cares what the score was , it was a testimonial for gods sake. We has Armo at Right back and a trialist in goal and at left back and it was a fitness run out trying not to get injured

I agree, there seem to be certain people on here who want to make assessments on one testimonial match . Siggy will take a while to get to full fitness due to his bad injury but some obviously have made their minds up already. Lets leave the bickering and infighting to the Lewes forum. Some seem to forget that Eastbourne Town couldnt get a kick with the 1st half team

Interesting post Andy about Mark Goodwin it's always been my view that he is a good player but seems to lack the confidence to become a better player.

To quote Yellows : For the guy .... actually I'm female .... who said it was out of order for town fans to boo the borough of the pitch i would say look at all local derbys, is this not so...... no, not all the time. As my post pointed out I think you should be pleased at Towns comeback but support for your side is not shown by abusing the opposition. I personally hope boro come straight back down again, i am a town fan and thats football ..... that's fine. I hope Town return to the County League at the earliest opportunity. I've always found that the Town look down their noses at Boro (and I have 30 years of knowledge to base that on) but with a abse of 100+ years history (setting aside the merger with United !! ) the club has achieved ....... what exactly in recent years ? Rested on fat laurels as the Towns 'top' side for too many years before braving the big wide world outside the County League - well done so the Do yop think Liverpool would want Everton to do well , Arsenal Tottenham...... no, but when rivals unite to support a common cause (a testimonial for a long-time servant) I believe there are many examples when fans have behaved with dignity and ..... Thats football ..... maybe at The Saffrons - your're welcome to it.I noticed no fans were singing last nite?... no need, it was your clubs 'big' night - not ours. Hope you enjoyed the biggest crowd of your season against 'little old Langney'I am sure you guys come along for Brockers benifit.... not me, no, but the club and players did, yes. The Boro fans came to watch their side. I expect nearly all you guys jumped on the Boro bandwagon when they started going up the divisions...... as did the increase in support at Town as you joined the Rymans. Please name me a club where crowds do not increase with success and reduce with failure. I guess you want only the hard-core to support Town as you climb the league. Still that makes it easy for your committee. With fans thinking like you do they need not bother trying to increase the fan-base. Still if you pumped some of the money from grants into tour community club perhaps your girls/ladies teams would not of stormed of..... can you explain that to me please. I have no idea how grants for Eastbourne Borough FC can affect the Ladies/Girls issue at Eastbourne Borough Youth FC. Mind you , if you don't play in the first team you have to play on the over spill car park...... by that I guess you mean the Front Pitch at Priory Lane. Hmmm, you seem to be mis-informed. Yes, the Ladies play on the front pitch but Reserves, U18's etc all play on the main stadium pitch. Down town every one plays on the main pitch..... OK, so the Ladies also play on the Saffrons front pitch. Congratulations. Now how many of the youth set-up play at the Saffrons. Oh yes, that's right there is no Eastbourne Town Youth set-up. There are 'affiliates' that don't carry the name. Well done on attempting to create a sense of belonging to the club by keeping them at arms length. Still as you describe above the 'hard-core' nature of the Towns support why would you want kids associating themselves to you. Horrible increased numbers at games spoiling your Saturday afternoon. To quote Stroller: ok,ok enoughs enough .I know the people at Town, and i know they were very grateful for Borough playing last nite .Yes you always get a bit of banter and rivalry between local clubs, and it makes it a more spicier occassion .However last night was a FRIENDLY game of football played between two teams, and not once did i see the players go over the top etc.Im sure both sides got a lot out of the exercise ,some players were clearly short of match fitness and only playing in 90 minute games will bring them back to the peak of physical fitness,we hope ! .... agree. Great post about the game. One last thing,i was in the stand at the end, when the players came off,it was only really one individual who had clearly had a few to drink that shouted his mouth off ,and if the borough supporters were upset by that ,you have got a big shock coming when you visit the more northern teams this year ,remember Kings Lynn?? .... actually it was way more than 1 individual. With regard to taking abuse I think Boro fans that have travelled with the club for years know what to expect. Yes, I do remember Kings Lynn and 'atmosphere' in a competitive game is only to be expected, and even welcomed in the right context. However my disgust at the behaviour of the group of Town fans is based on the 'friendly' nature of the fixture and if Town can't understand that then I hope my club provide no further assistance to them.
