some of your comments lok are worthy some however are not so, last night the result was not the important aspect, mind you nobody went out there wanting too lose and town vs boro will never be a nothing affair! the fact you say town look own their noses at boro is a stupid comment to make on your part with nothing to back that statement up! And a sly "biggest crowd of the season" dig again really necessary? Boro and town will never be best of friends on the terrace but we provide each other with players town to boro - and boro-town. I dont wish relegation on boro as you did on town but the result of boro is not one i look out for in the paper! A club can not always control people who pay to come through the gate and have a few drinks and the comments made by whoever im sure were made in the heat of the atmosphere. i hope all enjoyed the game which as a taster for a great season ahead!

some of your comments lok are worthy some however are not so, .... many thanks for your kind words. last night the result was not the important aspect, .... agreed, I thought the point was to celebrate the loyalty of a Town player. mind you nobody went out there wanting too lose and town vs boro will never be a nothing affair! ...... really ! As I have stated my history dates 30 years. In that time the Langney rivals have always been Hailsham. The Town rivals always appeared to be United to me. Since promotion out of the County league our locals rivals have moved from Hastings to Lewes. I suspect if Town remain out of the County League for several years your 'big game' will also change. the fact you say town look own their noses at boro is a stupid comment to make on your part with nothing to back that statement up! .... how do you know I have nothing to back this statement ? I choose not to describe my personal basis for this point of view but it does not stop me from holding this opinion or voicing it. However just as a very small indication - if you have spent any time obtaining tea at The Saffrons over the last few years you will have seen a photograph hanging in full view of a Priory Lane crowd and a 'voice/text' amendment. Not there last night but a 'chip' if ever I saw one. And a sly "biggest crowd of the season" dig again really necessary? .... yes, because I am responding to an individual who is digging at an increase in support for Boro over a number of years due to success. I have taken a tack of reasoned debate coupled with a blunt observation. Also, if a large number of support for Boro was not expected why were we invited to be the opposition. Friendship ? Boro and town will never be best of friends on the terrace ..... never expected to be friends. but we provide each other with players town to boro - and boro-town....strange that appears to indicate a 'friendship'. I would imagine that this' arrangement' has little to do with the clubs and more to do with the players playing where it suits them most - money or other lifestyle choices (travel etc). As I have stated in my post I hope that the club I support looks at the response from The Saffrons crowd to our players, so if Town wish to 'loan' a player in (a la Andy Ballard last season) the 'reception' last night enters the decision. I dont wish relegation on boro ... thanks as you did on town .... yes, based on my personal experiences. but the result of boro is not one i look out for in the paper! ..... meaning ? A club can not always control people who pay to come through the gate and have a few drinks .... agreed. I have not criticised the behaviour of the club and have congratulated the team on their comeback. and the comments made by whoever im sure were made in the heat of the atmosphere.....and that is an excuse or a reason ? i hope all enjoyed the game which as a taster for a great season ahead! ... agreed. My original post directed no criticism at the Town club or team. I attended the game to see my team start their pre-season. I simply described my feelings towards the behaviour of a group of individuals that support Town, and their attitude towards a group of players and club that accepted an invitation to help raise a money for a local players testimonial.

8 goals for a fiver - can't ask for more than that! Hopefully both clubs will get drawn against each other in this seasons Sussex Senior Cup so we can have a fully contested football match with full strength sides and then have a proper debate after the outcome of that.

yellows, I know a lot of borough fans and I would say about 10 percent of them are new to the club and have ever supported teams like town first

lok interesting comments , i to have had well over 40 years experience of the local football scene ,but some of your comments have made me chuckle. Town have always been Langney /Boroughs main rivals in the Town,United used to be the top club in the Town not Eastbourne Town .You only had to see the crowd figures for the Town v Langney fixtures when in the County league to see that . The fixture was arranged on the whole to enable a good crowd to come and support a good local player who has supported his club through thick and thin , the same as Darren Baker has done for Borough, but also it was a shrewd move by the club to enable Borough supporters who do not travel ,to see a home preseason friendly to give the pitch time to establish itself a little better.Do you think the club would have played Town had the pitch been available ?? Only the top brass will know that as they make the decisions to run the club . With regards to the Eastbourne Town youth set up ,you say there is none ?Well im afraid your wrong here , there is no younger set up yes ,but as you correctly state the youngsters from Old Town and Polegate are affiliated with the Town club ,but Town do have a successful u15 side that won the county cup last year and also U16s side , and a successful U18s that all play under the Town banner. Finally the comment about the picture ,if you think Town have a chip on there shoulder what about yourself?? The picture you remarked on was presented to someone as a joke ,no malice toward Langney was intended ,you obviously took offence that is up to you as an individual ,but please next time you visit (which i doubt you will based on your expierience last night) ask about it in the tea hut at the Saffrons ,they will tell you the story behind it and then maybe even you will be able to laugh about it . Until then hopefully all the teams in the Town will do well next season ,that is only good for the football community within the Town wether you support Borough,Town or United .

lok interesting comments , i to have had well over 40 years experience of the local football scene ,but some of your comments have made me chuckle....only to glad to entertain. Town have always been Langney/Boroughs main rivals in the Town,United used to be the top club in the Town not Eastbourne Town...... sorry, that all depends on your timeframe. Town were 'passed' by United for a short while but the 'received wisdom' from discussions with Town people over the years led me to the view that Town always saw themselves as 'the' club in the town and that Langney were very much from the wrong end of town. You only had to see the crowd figures for the Town v Langney fixtures when in the County league to see that.... well without stats to hand I can't produce statistics. My memory was that the Hailsham .v. Langney fixture was the one 'we' wanted to win and that the Hailsham crowd was always large and noisy. Agree to differ I think. The fixture was arranged on the whole to enable a good crowd to come and support a good local player who has supported his club through thick and thin , the same as Darren Baker has done for Borough .... absolutely. You seem to be making my point for me. If a local rival/a.n. other club was good enough to accept an invitation from Boro to act as opposition and raise money for one of our players I would be disgusted by any individual who 'booed' that team off the field irrespective of 'history'. but also it was a shrewd move by the club to enable Borough supporters who do not travel ,to see a home preseason friendly to give the pitch time to establish itself a little better.Do you think the club would have played Town had the pitch been available ??.... very possibly. We palyed most of the early pre-seasons away last year. Agree that the new surface is being protected but work was also progressed last year. Only the top brass will know that as they make the decisions to run the club . With regards to the Eastbourne Town youth set up ,you say there is none ?Well im afraid your wrong here , there is no younger set up yes ,but as you correctly state the youngsters from Old Town and Polegate are affiliated with the Town club ,but Town do have a successful u15 side that won the county cup last year and also U16s side , and a successful U18s that all play under the Town banner....I am aware of that I have followed our teams to The Saffrons. My point (crudely made I admit) was in response to 'all Town teams play on the Saffrons pitch' when the number of teams carrying the Boro name (including the Youth, the club that 'run' the girls set-up) is obviously too large to play at Priory Lane let alone on the stadium pitch. Finally the comment about the picture ,if you think Town have a chip on there shoulder what about yourself?? ... no chip. There is nothing Town have that I could possibly want from my team or club. The picture you remarked on was presented to someone as a joke ,no malice toward Langney was intended ,you obviously took offence that is up to you as an individual ,but please next time you visit (which i doubt you will based on your expierience last night) .... no, I will be there if my family commitments allow me to follow my club to the Saffrons again ask about it in the tea hut at the Saffrons ,they will tell you the story behind it and then maybe even you will be able to laugh about it. ..... no need, wouldn't be interested. I have my own belief on what the 'joke' was based ...... remeber I have seen it ..... and I don't believe Boro would allow any 'joke' regarding a Boro fan that involved another local club to be on display and hence available to be misconstrued. Until then hopefully all the teams in the Town will do well next season ,that is only good for the football community within the Town wether you support Borough,Town or United. .. not exactly my sentiment, as described, nor I suspect that of the majority of supporters on either side, but I must repeat my original post carried no criticism of the club only some individuals who follow it.

simply a preseason try out and a testimonial............"kill two birds with one stone". Both sides discovered important facts about their own sides.....that's what the purpose is. Isn't it?? Mark Goodwin looked good, as someone else commented. Apparently his temperment is not quite right. He is a really nice guy. That, I believe, was always the problem. He has no nasty streak, in order to find that edge on the opposition, and get stuck in. He, as I reckon, looked good. Siggy looked heavy and out of sorts, but there is time, obviously, to raise his game and be in contention IMO. Atkin....pure class!!

I think you must agree it could have been done better! We already new about the first half team and the second half was all out of any order! What was Armo doing at the back? We showed our weaknesses, now we need to show our strenghts. Hopefully the next game will be better. I wont be going!

I wouldn't bother replying to our friends from The Saffs, they are only trying to provoke. They are obviously bored of discussing the fact that they were formed over 100 years ago and hence have a long and distinguished history, despite 2 name changes - (remember the grief we took for 1), a merger and winning very little in recent times. Still as you say ebfc1 they will probably never reach the Conference, probably don't want to either, so will not understand that if Boro do suffer relegation at the end of this season it will have been at the end of a glorious rise through the non-league ranks - flying past Town on the way, our big rivals apparently (I wonder who they disliked until the early 80's when we arrived ?) - and would be the 1st relegation the club has ever suffered. Still I suppose we will never compete with bouncing around in the County League for such a long time and developing such an impressive stadium in the meantime ('lets screw some seats in, erect a fence and put in a doubleglazed portacabin and call it development - aren't we fabulous at the Field of Dreams' - or is it Dreamers ? - and isn't it great when a club awards its ground such a title, especially when it isn't exactly original.')

I agree with that! Has it really taken them 100 years to get to that level?
I can remember Crabby playing there many years ago! It was a better football field then. IMO.

Lok you continue to amuse me ,i think you should be on the stage as your humour has me in stiches !! I really think you should stick to worrying about your own clubs problems if they have any !! Now i cant let you get away again saying untruths about the Town ,i quote you "despite 2 name changes "now now Lok Town have only ever changed there name once ,from Eastbourne fc, to the now Eastbourne Town fc. Again i quote you "a merger " in all my long years Town have never merged with anyone and i cannot see where you are coming from with that ,maybe you are confusing us with Utd merging with Shinewater assoc?? The other items you quote are very rude towards the good people at Town ,its a good job they exsist as not everybody can afford to watch football at Blue sq prem level anymore ,what are they going to do ,spend time at home in future on a saturday afternoon ?no i dont think so , they will vote with there feet, and go to Town or United , some will stay true and loyal to the Borough and they are the true supporters that will be with you through thick and thin ,as have supporters at Town and United over the years . Lok i can imagine you could only dream of having a History that is over 100 years old ,but unless you are very lucky you wont be around to see Borough go past the 100 years , neither will i .I can assure you both Town and United will continue to ply there trade at whatever level necessary in football to offer an alternative to Borough in the Town , and with over 200 years of history between them you have got along way to go yet. Dont get me wrong Lok, im no knocker of Borough, good luck to them i say , im a local football follower,im glad to see Borough up where they are ,im sure they have earnt the respect from the football fraternity within the Town ,but as eggs are eggs all clubs eventually reach there level and i believe without good investment Borough have reached theirs .I may be wrong, but at £12.50 a shot i for one will not be passing through your gates for a while, my football watching now takes on the lesser teams in the Town along with many of my friends who i go to football with on a saturday and midweek , Lok that is the harsh reality that Borough have to face now, lets hope they stay in the Blue sq prem and have a good season ! No doubt Lok you will try and take my passage apart ,as i do to you , but please get your facts right before you do its only polite you know !! i await with baited breath lol
