Paxman seems like a great signing, the way the statement reads thanking Ebbsfleet for getting the deal says to me Boro may have paid a fee….. not many times that’s happened in the past.

“Alex Finney
I feel it’s only right to clarify the situation with regards to the signing of Alex.
Mark and our recruitment team identified Alex as a player of interest and potential signing for The Sports so we made contact with the player.
Mark explained the project we are about to embark on and the vision of the owner, the set up, structure and how he wanted Alex to be part of it.
Joining us was a more appealing option to Alex and it certainly wasn’t a purely financially driven decision as it has been suggested by Tonbridge.
It is correct that Alex had already agreed terms with Tonbridge Angels, and had also participated in a training session. But he had not signed a contract with the them so was still a free agent.
The reason they decided to announce him as thier player before him signing a contract only they can explain.
If he had been a contracted player we would of course made the correct approach to the club.
We have a responsibility to sign the best available players to strengthen our team and to provide success and entertainment for our devoted fan base. And we will continue to do that in the correct manner.

Maybe Ebbsfleet wanted him to stay for another season as well, with his experience in the league above that’s a good possibility? |
