Somtimes thia forum makes me despair - we all know we have a mid table budget, and yet we are still 8th
1 Dartford 57 2 Ebbsfleet United 54 3 Havant & Waterlooville 52 4 Worthing 46 5 Chelmsford City 44 6 Oxford City 43 7 St Albans City 42 8 Eastbourne Borough 39
So we have hit a Christmas wall - happens to a lot of teams and coincided with Jack Hutchison going to Aldershot - we ain't going down ..............rejoice !!!!

I heard on Saturday at the Lane there was a chance of keeping Hutchinson , not sure how true it was.

It’s true, we’re a little off the pace at the minute, not helped by injuries to key players and players leaving. However, I can remember people on here claiming Danny didn’t know what he was doing etc. earlier on the season when we had hid a bad patch of form. Funnily enough, these voices died down when we produced the best form in the league over a ten game period in the run up to Christmas. Now we’ve lost three and the detractors back again!! Talk about fickle.. we’ll bounce back, we’re still overall doing well and still in the mix. People seem to forget we spent about a decade just floating about in the lower midtable. Credit where it’s due IMO: Danny has turned that to consistently competing in the top third of the table and challenging for the play-offs. Form comes and goes, hopefully we’ll be able to bring in a few new faces and get back to winning ways.

Bits and bumps are typical of any team in mid table. I am not sure that signings are needed. Consolidation of a solid mid table sitting is surely preferable and use the time remaining to give experience to squad players. We have a lot of good youngsters like Pinto (what’s happened to him? Is he injured?) I know a late surge towards the play offs is not out of the question but think of the financial loss if that fails and resentment at the lack of opportunity amongst the youngsters it would cause. It might work against us long term.

Even if we don’t make the play-offs, the thought that we might keeps it exciting and boosts crowd numbers. Our squad is good enough to compete for the play-offs and I wouldn’t advocate breaking the bank to bring in new players - but it’s a very long season (particularly for semi-pros) and shrewd loan signings like Hutchinson or Bendle help to keep us ticking over and avoid overplaying certain individuals.

Tbh we’re a mid table team at best with no ambition or infrastructure to move into the next league . Budget and location will always hold us back .
