Supporters who travel with the Supporters Club to away matches,will be aware of one area of great concern to the Supporters Club Committee. The subject of unaccompanied children to away games.
We,as members of the Football Supporters Federation have approached the organisation with regard to our concern's on this subject.
The following is part of the reply we received from the F.S.F.
QUOTE
"I can say that the matter has been discussed in FSF 'circles' before and the general view taken has been that it is quite unwise to allow unaccompanied youngsters to travel on supporters club transport.
Any such youg travellers are likely to legally become the direct reponsibility of the club "steward"* travelling on your transport.
Any problems that arise will then be regarded as that stewards*
responsibility, and in our modern 'compensation culture' a club could find itself under attack from a law suit for damages, should a child bre injured ect.. The implications nowadays of the Child Protection Act and related legislation make this a real minefield, with Criminal Records Bureau clearance likely to be required for travelling stewards* together with the need for written authorities desirable from parents for the child to travel ect;
It is therefore very desirable that organising clubs do insist on juniors being accompanied by responsible adults".
UNQUOTE.
"STEWARD"* denotes Committee Members.
In view of the above;
It was unanimously agreed at the last Supporters Club Committee meeting that the following will apply with the commencement of the first away game next season 06/07.;
Any junior(Under 16)wishing to travel on the supporters club coach without their parents or legal guardian, must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
The supporters club will require the parents or guardian to sign a
letter (Supplied by the Supporters Club) allowing their child to travel with a named adult.
The Adult taking responsibility for the child will also be requied to sign a letter (Supplied by the Supporters Club) acknowledging that they accept full resposibility for the child.
We hope supporters will understand that as organisers of away travel on behalf of the club we have to protect ourselves from any liabilty.
We hope that this will not stop young supporter travelling with us next season.
