Eastbourne Borough Ryman u18s hit 4 second half goals to beat rivals Lewes at Priory Lane on Monday (20th)
Both sides started well and kept the ball neatly without threatening each other until speedster Nick Richardson went through one on one but couldn't get round the Lewes keeper. Boro stepped up their tempo as the half went on and James Stone forced the goalie into another save from a Richardson pass.
Lewes were always dangerous on the break though and narrowly missed a decent chance on 27 minutes. This seemed to make Boro a little more cautious and after a Richardson flick, a great touch from Stone and another saved effort Lewes broke again and Harrison Hilfiker in the home goal had to make a great save from a good long range effort and another sharp stop from the resulting corner.
Just before the half time whistle the ball fizzed across the visitors box evading both Boro and Lewes outstretched legs.
A couple of things pointed out on the tactics board paid instant dividends just after the restart when on 49 minutes a Harry Butler through ball was put away by Richardson for 1 - 0 and then on 51 Jacob Merrick and Harry Blackman combined to cross for Jordan Astell to slam home from close range to double the lead.
With the reds on top and Lewes pinned back Richardson missed another one on one and Astell was denied a penalty on 65 .
Richardson got his second from a Stone cross and as Boro gave valuable minutes to two more U16s (ending up with 4 on the pitch at the end) he completed his hat-trick in stoppage time as a shot come cross was deflected in...
A great way to end the season as Boro ended up fourth in the league , unbeaten at home and with a great set of youngsters coming through the future looks very bright!
