After 6 months of frustration Eastbourne Borough Ryman 18s finally clicked into gear with a brilliant 7 - 0 win at home to Hastings on Monday night (2nd March)
With a full strength squad to choose from Boro started quickly and went ahead after 10 minutes when good work from Jordan Astell forced the ball to Toby Clifford who played a lovely pass through to Nick Richardson to calmly slot home.
On 18 James Stone set up Astell for 2 - 0 and after Richardson had hit the post when it seemed easier to score after another great move the ball went down the other end where Hastings should have made it 2-1 but great defensive work on the line from Chris Hutchins and Harrison Hilfiker kept them out.
James Coyle had a flicked header from a worked corner routine hit the other post on 25 and Astell joined in battering the frame of the goal a few minutes after.
Jacob Merrick scored a wonderful individual goal after beating 2 or 3 players from out on the touchline on 35 and Astell got his second just before half time.
The second half started a bit like the first with Richardson getting his second on 50 and Astell completing his hat -trick on the hour.
Three changes from a very strong bench gave Patrick Dallaway his debut and the other two subs combined with Charlie Mackay setting up Ollie Taylor to complete the rout with on 75.
Skipper John Reeves forced the visitors 'keeper to tip his free kick over the bar and Boro always looked dangerous but 7 - 0 was how it ended to the delight of most of the decent crowd of 62
To their credit Hastings never gave up and after looking a bit shell shocked for most of the first half they always tried to play football and never once resorted to the long ball.
