Nice to see that TW is building a stronger squad to push for promotion. The club and supporters have obvious reasons to be excited about. My concern is for the welfare of our homebrew from the academy and other local talents. We've lost players like Ollie are, Sam C and Elliot L. I am sure these lads would have stayed at Boro if they had more playing time on the pitch. Likewise, for our crop of local young talents. Already (this season) a few have started from the bench and had hoped to progress further. How disillusioned they must feel if they're not given further opportunity if TW continues to sign too many non local players. So far he's already re signed four ex Boro players who left the club (in my opinion financially driven). They've returned as the grass (dosh) is not greener on the other side. I am sure many will disagree with my opinion.
TW needs to strike a balance. I am sure this is not an easy task. He has to do his job to push for promotion, to please the supporters and to ensure a healthy fincancial balance for the club. I hope I've not riled many of you supporters with my personal opinion. I am just concerned for the future of our local talents and at the same time wants the club to do well now and the future.

The thought about how the youngsters like Bown would view this crossed my mind however if we want to progress like Crawley and Stevenage have done in the recent past I think you have to be quite hard nosed about it. I doubt if either of those sides is full of local home grown talent today. Surely the Academy is a great thing and if it produces one or two lads every year that have the ability to play at our current and future 1st team level great. We will have to nurture the best and loan them out on dual registration etc to the likes of Town or Worthing so they get tested and learn in competitive men's football with the option to bring them back into the reckoning if they realy shine.

Possible view is that we didn't lose players like Ollie, Sam and Elliot, we upgraded..... Plus employment circumstances dictated at least one of those that left I believe..... The academy lads have developed leaps and bounds under Jay's supervision but they are all young.... Can you honestly believe these 17 year olds are ready for week in week out 90 minute games? Its all part of their education and nurturing.............

Times have changed from when we were last in Conference South ,indeed the promotion team mainly succeeded because they had combined well as a unit and possibly overachieved ,if we are to prosper we need to have the best team that we can afford and realise that to the players this mainly a job ,we supporters view it differently ,if our local players found better paid positions don't you think they would take it ,I think we have the strongest team since we got promoted and barring injuries we should do really well !

A strong academy is a learning environment and a shop window for talent with one or two progressing to their home club 1st team. Very few teams contain a high percentage of locally based players. If the academy gets a good reputation then the talent within (local or otherwise) can only benefit.
As for players motivation for moving to a particular club, lets not fool ourselves, I doubt it is for the colour of the kit or the local facilities. It is probably mainly about what is good for their career and earnngs potential.
Non league fotball HAS changed since Boro were in the Prem. The financial reality means that far mor Premier clubs are part time. Teams have changed their training set up and Boro are already aligned to this. Hopefully this Boro squad are strong enough to make the play offs and excite and please the Boro fans on the way. Maybe the new Premier set up could buy us more time to evolve into a full time outfit. Maybe we will get a major sponsor, who knows, lets hopefully just enjoy the journey.
