Firstly apologies for the shortness and lack of proper information in this report but I was dealing with a Worthing lad that ended up being put on a spinal board and taken to hospital for scans etc. Pleased to say he is home now and feeling a bit better.
Anyway, As the Worthing coach said, the injury detracted from a cracking game of football with both sides playing the right way. We started well but were rocked back a bit when the visitors took the lead with their first attack on 8 minutes. Corey Wheeler then equalised on 23 with his first goal for the 18s, a good header from a Jacob Marsh cross.
The rest of the half was end to end played a very fast pace and was a credit to both clubs and just as it looked like it would end all square Worthing nicked a goal just before the break. Boro then hit back straight after the restart on 48 with a well taken goal from Jacob who seemed to be enjoying a bit more freedom in midfield and causing problems down the right flank.
After 55 minutes Worthing again took the lead and controlled the game for a period until 3 development centre lads were brought on late on to inject a bit of pace into a rapidly tiring Boro side who were showing signs of a weather enforced 2 week break. Ryley Tate, another 15 year old who had started was replaced by James Stone, Harry Ducatel and Niall Macdonald came on for the injured Ryan Gilbert and Mitch Light. The tactical reshuffle all over the park seemed to confuse Worthing a bit and Niall popped up on 90 minutes to put the teams level again with a typical poachers goal from 3 yards.
In stoppage time the referee who had a decent game overall missed a nailed on penalty for a trip on Naill and extra time beckoned.
Worthing nicked a fourth on 106 and with Boro playing four up top and chasing the game sealed their win with a fifth on 114.
Overall though a good spirited display from a team that included four 15 yr olds and two or three first year 18s.
