A close season capture from Corinthian-Casuals, the twenty year old goalkeeper was arguably one of the top performers in his position last season in division one and rewarded his manager's faith in making him Horsham's first choice 'keeper with an inspired display in the season's opening fixture at Staines Town.
Sounds Quite good

Every serious football side needs a second keeper, as cover if nothing else. I think Lee needs someone close on his heels to challenge and to coach him to kick straight and offer ideas as to positioning - reference: getting lobbed, not for the first time.

Agree completely. Hooky is certainly one of the three best shot-stoppers in this league, is very braze in going down at players' feet when needed, is probably the best 'outfield keeper' in the league when he needs to go outside the penalty area to deal with a situation (or when he gets caught outside the box) and is extremely consistant - I don't remember seeing him have a bad game, only bad moments. However, his kicking leaves something to be desired (but has improved as the season has worn on), his positioning sense is terrible, he always looks dodgy at corners or crosses, his punching is terrible (and often unnecessary) and in one-on-one situations he can be very hesitant. A good-quality number two keeper will keep him on his toes and will, hopefully, force him to concentrate on his weak areas. I know nothing about this new keeper (apart from what has been written here), but he sounds a good addition to the squad, and with any luck he will be of a high enough quality to push for the first-choice keeper slot. Regardless of position, or current player, if we can get a better player into the squad than we currently have, it can only be good for the club.

Do bear in mind that Gareth is one of a number of goalkeepers Garry "signed" on dual-registration prior to the March 31st deadline so as to ensure at least one of them is available as cover at any one time. Horsham didn't have a game on Monday, so Gareth was available. I'm led to believe that on days where Horsham and Boro are both playing (such as Saturday) another 'keeper might well be on the bench. Incidentally, Gareth Williams is also my girlfriend's mate's brother...

As Andrew says above, I wouldn't get too excited about another keeper just yet.
Horsham didn't have a game on Monday and aren't going anywhere, so it could be that John Maggs was just helping Garry out just in case the injury that Hooky was carrying didn't see him through the 90 mins.
As for having another quality keeper on the books, I think this may be a luxury we simply cannot afford. What is the point of paying someone just to sit on the bench on the off-chance he may be required? (that's what Dean does). Professional clubs usually have 2-3 keepers and tend to loan them to clubs like us when we need cover and I suspect that is what we would do if Hooky were not able to play.
The only alternative is for us to get another keeper then loan him out to another club when not needed, in order to pay his wages.

Personally, I think we will see another keeper playing a part in at least 1 of the remaining games. Hooky seemed to be in quite a lot of pain as he left the pitch on Monday.

Yes, I have to agree that it might be a luxury we can't afford; from what I know of the club's finances, taking the pitch drainage costs into account, we are perilously close to not being able to afford what we already have! Still, I try to stay optomistic, and hope that costs in the close season will not be as high as feared, some now stream of income will arrive, and that we manage to get some new players from somewhere. If (when?) we go up, at least we will have the extra income from the Sentana package, but I have no idea how many games, or at what price, will be shown. And, of course, all the other National teams will be getting the same, so you can bet that costs will go up in proportion. All we poor slobs who follow the club can do is continue to pay our entrance money, get a friend to tag along whenever possible, and buy an extra cup of tea each match. I suppose it all adds up. Mind you, it looks like a costly last week to the season, with the play-offs straight after that. Makes me glad that I got a season ticket.
