Saturday 3rd March 2007 : 8.45am 1st XI: After work and expense progressed during the past week there was increasing confidence on Friday afternoon that todays fixture .v. Newport County would go ahead. However, very heavy rain overnight in Eastbourne has left an area of the pitch unsuitable for play. The referee commented that his boot sunk into the playing surface and this is dangerous for players of both clubs. The match has been rearranged for Tuesday the 24th of April. Kick-off will be at 7.45pm.
Further activity is planned for the next few days on the pitch that it is hoped will allow Tuesdays home fixture .v. Bognor Regis Town to go ahead.

Very heavy rain yesterday evening admittedly, but what a gorgeous day today. Just the day we all look for to go and enjoy a good game of footy. It would have been another good gate, the club must be so frustrated.
The website is listening to this forum, a lot of diplomatic information giving. If anything, going over the top now to explain the expense and effort going in to solve the pitch problem.
I have news for the club ITS NOT WORKING !!!!
The real measure today will be to see how many local and Conf South games are also called off.
It might be better from here on just to assume all home games are postponed and make a press announcement when one is actually on!

There is no short term measure to fix this IMO the way the weather has been recently. Phoned the club yesterday to offer my help if any forking was required. At the time (about 3pm) the pitch was the driest it had been for a while. Then the heavens opened up and ruined all the good work put in. We are a small club and cannot pull up the pitch and sort out the draining during the season like the big clubs can. We dont have the finances or manpower to do it!!!!! If you are fed up with the postponements, go and offer to help. Maybe we should all club together and give the money to the club in a way of sponsorship or donation to get some tarpulin to cover the pitch in the worst areas when the weather is bad as a previous poster suggested. Should Len and the rest of the committee have rejected the internationals and the financial and publicity benefits that come with it and do work on the pitch in case there was more than average rainfall during the early part of the new year?? I think not!!!! So instead of lambasting the club on forums, get up and help!!!!!!!!! Rant over.

I work in London so no chance to fork the pitch or whatever practical help may be required during the week, and for me this makes midweek games problematical as well. I suppose though the most worrying thing is with the weather forecast the way it is, I can't see us getting a home match on this side of Easter.
It's also additionally frustrating and sods law that, with a decision having to be made before the Newport team left, with the wind and sun the pitch will probably be playable by 3:00pm.

Those who are interested in Borough would have been down to the club this week and seen what work the loyal supporters have done to get the game on today, up till 5pm last night the game would have been on but after torrential rain last night the pitch must be very wet. I still find it hard to believe that so called Borough fans use this forum for unhelpful and negative comments when we should all get behind them and do what we can as, a lot of people have told me this is MEANT TO BE a community club!!

Looks like the only game off today. All local county games on, Whitehawks big game on. Perhaps this will quieten all those who keep saying that we are not the only ones suffering.
Its hard to believe that after a dry, sunny and breezy day we have had to call this off today. I wonder when the league will intervene, or have they??

Perhaps you need to go down and look for yourself. Why would the league intervene when we are 9th in the league with 5 above us with the same amount of games played.

It is particularly unfortunate that today we were at home to Newport County and therefore a very early pitch inspection was required. Had they travelled from South Wales for nothing then we would have been liable for their expenses which, given the amount of money we have already lost, would not have helped matters.
Had our rivals been more local then presumably there would have been time to try and get the game on. By all accounts, the pitch hadn't suffered too badly after last night's rain but there was still a dangerous area.
It's good to see that Whitehawk are playing as a postponement with Truro having travelled all that way would have been disastrous for them. Of course they have the benefit of a pitch being built on chalk, as opposed to a marsh.

In the absence of the football today I took advantage of the sunshine to visit Wakefield Place near Haywards Heath.
We had a great time until we left at 5pm and then came through a torrential storm which left the roads seriously flooded. Reached Uckfield to find dry roads and no sign of rain.
Have the gods smiled on us and given us a day without rain?
It is so frustrating when the weather is so nice but until we have a decent spell of dry weather we don't have a hope in hell of getting a match in. It always seems to rain the day/night before a match.

If you went down there and saw what the pitch was like youself last night Silverfox you would have seen a pitch that would have been playable today if the torrential rain hadnt fallen last night , over an inch in 5 hours. We have only got to play 10 more matches on it before we get it relaid. What suggestions do you want to give the club then Silverfox as to how we can stop rain?? If you are a so called supporter of Boro we dont want you thanks, if you want to see a match every week watch Sky , I'm sure you can walk from your computer to the tv

Your club is a joke, how many games is that now? Why don't you go play it at Easbourne Uniteds ground haha, because it seems your only Sussex county standards anyway.
