According to the Hastings United Forum we have signed Duncan Mcarthur. I think he could be the type of player who will benefit our midfield. His poor disciplinary record is the probably the only reason he does not play at a higher level. Lets hope he is cooling down as he gets older.

Some Player's have fire in their belly and play from there or they are motivated by other things and see a red mist. McArthur comes from the latter lot, from all reports, including info found on him earlier in the season, when he was rumoured to be coming to us. All info indicates he has an appalling disciplinary record. Storey and Warner are angels in comparison. I hope they, at Hastings Forum, are having a laugh. GnN said quality and not quantity!! I will wait and see before throwing the toys out of my pram. It's a big gamble, but maybe he was less expensive than the tried and tested Conference players...Crawley Town players that are now available. OK, it maybe that some of these may still be coming to Boro?? [be]It will be interesting to see if Garry pulls a white rabbit out of the hat or a white elephant? ?[/be]

Confirmed by the Hastings United website. www.hastingsunitedfc.co.uk/Latestnews.htmHaving said that, this is the same website that claimed Danny Simmonds had signed for Hastings - 24 hours before he joined Ashford Town...

I can't see GnN gambling on a hot head when they have just "rid" themselves of two very talented hot heads, tried and tested!!

Five or six years ago he was special but i'm not so sure now. I'm still certain we will be signing better players than Duncan soon. The only thing I guess might be a slowing negotiations down with these Crawley players is money? But i'm still optimistic.

I think most Hastings supporters would agree that Duncan still has what it takes to perform at Conference South level. I imagine that being surrounded by better players will bring out the best in him as well, although his attitude and temperament remain questionable of course. The advantage you may have there, is that few of your opponents will be too aware of his reputation, so he ought not be quite the target he has become on a more local level. It is a bit of a gamble on Garry's part and the chances are that Duncan will either be a stunning success and transform your midfield, or be sent packing within six weeks. For Duncan's sake, I hope it's the former.

Paddy is of course correct, Duncan could do well or he could bomb. I'd be interested to know what kind of deal he's signed just incase it's the latter.

The fact that nothing official has come from the club I hope means that this information is incorrect. Duncan Mcarthur could certainly not be described as 'the exciting midfield signing'.
The last thing we need to have is a player on our books who will miss half the season on suspension following regular sending offs. This guy is renowned throughout Sussex football as the one to avoid at all costs. I really hope we do so.

This news has not been confirmed on the Official WebSite, so, it must be Codswallop...phew!! that was a close shave! I take GnN on their word that they're going for QUALITY. They've never given a reason in the past to think that they won't follow through with their word. Also, we can't compete with some other ConfSouth Clubs for £. But we surely can't be paupers, either? Some poster's tell me that Garry has a sound reputation in the Non-League, so, he must be able to lure player's down the Pyramid as opposed to pulling a disproportionate number up the Pyramid??

I agree Alan although the Hastings website seem convinced the deal has been made. A useful player but restricted to 29 games last year through ill discipline, 16 yellow cards! I really hope he is not the intended replacement for Anthony Storey, surely that can't be considered progress.

After having said all my stuff on this thread, I've heard today that GnN are working long hours to get players, quality players that is, to play for us. It is proving challenging, but they are giving it their best. Someone who I believe to be truthful told me this. The player budget has been increased...but not as much as was wished for. So, we may get some of the calibre that we all wanted, but, don't be too disappointed if we can't compete with the top six IMO. This is only based on what I've heard. Credit to GnN for quitely going about the business of making us as good as is realistic.
