Not wishing to outdo Nomad's quiz in the matchday programme, but thought I'd have a bit of fun and get some brain cells going amongst the growing membership to this forum with a (possibly regular) quiz. Football's an 11-a-side game, so you get 11 questions. Post answers in replies below - the winner gets the kudos of being very very clever indeed! This one's all about goals and goalscorers - nice easy ones to start you off with, with harder ones at the end.
(N.be. All references to 'the club' refer to both Langney Sports and Eastbourne Borough, since attaining senior status in 1983.)
1 - Who is the club's record goalscorer? 2 - Who scored the winning goal against Burgess Hill Town on April 11th, 2000 to clinch the Sussex County League title? 3 - That same player also scored the club's first-ever goal in the Southern League at the start of the next season, but against whom? 4 - Which midfielder scored Borough's first-ever goal in Conference South? 5 - Who was the last Borough player to score a hat-trick and against whom? 6 - Which current Borough player once scored AGAINST them (from open play) in a Sussex Senior Cup final at Priory Lane? 7 - Which Borough player scored four at Priory Lane in the 7-0 win v Newport IOW in January 2003? 8 - Who was the unlikely scorer of the goal that won the return match just a few weeks later? 9 - And, still on Newport IOW, what was unique about their winner v Borough in Sports' first Dr. Martens' Eastern Division season (2000/01)? 10 - Darren Baker has scored more goals in his ongoing Borough career than Yemi Odubade managed in his - true or false? 11 - And a toughie...against which team did Ben Austin score his first goal for Borough?
Let's see how those brain cells are going then!

Might as well have a go although there are some hards questions, I could look them up but that would be cheating.
Here goes...
1 - Who is the club's record goalscorer? Scott Ramsey 2 - Who scored the winning goal against Burgess Hill Town on April 11th, 2000 to clinch the Sussex County League title? Matt Allan? 3 - That same player also scored the club's first-ever goal in the Southern League at the start of the next season, but against whom? No idea 4 - Which midfielder scored Borough's first-ever goal in Conference South? Matt Crabb? 5 - Who was the last Borough player to score a hat-trick and against whom? Techinically it was Andy Aktin yesterday against Maidenhead at the time of writing this but when the question was proposed it would have been Yemi I think against Thurrock 6 - Which current Borough player once scored AGAINST them (from open play) in a Sussex Senior Cup final at Priory Lane? Anthony Storey? 7 - Which Borough player scored four at Priory Lane in the 7-0 win v Newport IOW in January 2003? Don't know 8 - Who was the unlikely scorer of the goal that won the return match just a few weeks later? Again don't know 9 - And, still on Newport IOW, what was unique about their winner v Borough in Sports' first Dr. Martens' Eastern Division season (2000/01)? An own goal? 10 - Darren Baker has scored more goals in his ongoing Borough career than Yemi Odubade managed in his - true or false? False I think 11 - And a toughie...against which team did Ben Austin score his first goal for Borough? Can't think
If no one else has a go I will do some research and have another go.

Unlucky Ollie - you got the Yemi question right (number 5), although that would be Andy Atkin now of course! Very good effort from Shinless - 8 out of 11, including the tricky last one...you must have as strange a memory as me! 1.Pass 2.Ginger God (Snelly) [be]correct - John Snelgrove[/be] 3.Spalding(in off the post I think) [be]correct - he definitely mishit it, whether it went in off the post though I can't remember[/be] 4.Simmo [be]correct[/be] 5.Atkin, Maidenhead ;D ( Yemi, Thurrock) [be]correct - trust Andy to ruin a completely good question! [/be] 6.Lee Newman [be]correct, for Lewes in 2002. Wasn't sure if Marc Pullan scored in penalty shoot-out for Crawley in 2003, so stipulated "open play"[/be] 7.Rambo. [be]correct[/be] 8.Pass. 9.It was scored by their keeper from his own area. [be]correct. Margate's Peter Trego scored in similar circumstances for Margate at Priory Lane last season[/be] 10.True [be]you're both wrong - Bakes has scored the same number of goals as Yemi did! [/be] 11.Fisher Athletic? [be]well done Shinless! Top of the class![/be] Still questions 1 and 8 to get.

Actually the way you worded your question about Bakes and Yemi makes the answer false because he hasn't scored more goals then Yemi.

Sorry, that's a good point! I think I originally meant it to be false, as I expected people to say that...and then point out that in fact Bakes, in a 14-year Borough career, has scored the same number of goals as Yemi in his 11-month spell at Priory Lane!
So yep Ollie you got 2 - sorry mate!

Memory serves me correct that the Margate keeper scored direct from a free-kick JUST inside his own half & not from his 18 yard box like the I-O-W keeper...........sorry if being pedantic! Tony.

The record goal scorer for the Boro/Sports is Nigel Hole. I beleive he scored 230 goals in 230 games. Oh! for a Nigel in todays team.

Tony.[/quote] I thought he rolled it out from his area and after a few touches smacked it . After running back to the goal he said he had done it once before

Still that Newport IOW winning goal question to clear up. And Tottie - I agree that the Newport keeper's goal was a much better trick than Trego's...although Trego's was by a man who was a professional cricketer!

Forgot about this!
For anybody still interested, the unlikely scorer of the winning goal away at Newport IOW in 2003 was one-time Borough left-back Rob Longhurst!
