Not a happy day for Darren Baker with his injury curtailing his 700th appearance after his mistake had let in Bedford for their first goal.
Unfortunately the entire Borough team appeared clueless this afternoon and the loss of Tucky and Lee Newman may well come back to haunt us.
This was definitely an "after the Lord Mayor's show" performance and it appeared that only one team wanted to win this afternoon.
I don't want to appear to be a fairweather supporter but I must say that two of the basic skills, passing to a player on your own side and controlling the ball when passed to you are two basics which were sadly lacking. Couple this with the Bedford centre forward being allowed to skip past 5 players to put the ball in the net was appalling. And wasn't it a good job Hooky was on the ball otherwise it would (and should) have been at least 5.
As we have seen so many times over the years we have a brilliant result against one of the high fliers and then the following match stroll onto the pitch expecting to walk it before being brought down to earth by a diabolical performance.
The saga goes on.
Next week will be a tough match against a team although lower down the pyramid but currently on fire.
The team need to put this game behind them as a lesson and concentrate on reverting to the basics. (Plus we do need a speedy forward to benefit from the many balls nodded on by Rambo that currently all fall to the opposition.)
In addition we need someone on the pitch to lead the team - it is quiet as a library at times with only Gary Wilson's voice to be heard.
That's my fourpennyworth for this week.
To finish up I do hope Darren's injury is not serious and that he will be back in action next week for his 701st appearance.

Why Oh why are we so inconsistent? Why do we have no player's who have the ability to run past opposition players?...no pace. I think that we'd best forget this game and start again, with Armo, Austin and hope that Crabb and Smart return to the midfield. i thought that Atkin was battling in midfield....the rest were not at the races. Tait...failed to impress, again.

Agree generally with what Taffy said, a performance like that is hard to forget. Wher do you startit was a disaster from start to finish. I hope Darren is not out fot to long, come back Tucky all is forgiven. Everyone you speak to says the same why are we persisting with trying to hit Ramsey and Tait with long balls when it dies not work. Time after time the ball was hit long and in about 90% of times the ball came straight back. Even after half time, playing what I belive was 3-5-2 we still struggled. Thank god for Hooky and poor finishing by Bedford or it could have been a lot worse. We are again suffering from having a small squad. There, rant over.

personally speaking I thought Bedford weren't that good . I am sure if we had our 1st choice team out we would have beaten them but with the injuries to key players Crabby , Austin , Baker , Dolista , Smart , Armstrong have I missed anyone , we were going to struggle. Harding , Douglas and Atkin were being played in various positions and are at best good County League players. Hopefully with a fit squad in a few weeks we can be back on the winning trail but with no sugar daddy we have to play to our means . We have better individual players this year which means a smaller squad but at least we are mid table and not in a relegation dogfight like last year

Spot on Maz. We don't have the strength in depth that other clubs enjoy, and are calling on players of county league standard for cover. There were a lot of angry people at the ground yesterday, and [you]if [/you]the club wants to progress even further this must change, we need stronger reserves. At the start of the season with the players we had, I was sure we would finish in the play-offs, but now we get a few injuries, and have released the likes of Tuck and Newman, we have no quality back up, just look at our subs bench! I felt really sorry for the young lad from Bexhill United, two goals down was not the time to introduce him to conference south football! Our stronger players will return, and I think we will finish mid-table, but I had hoped for a little more than that.
Rob.

Shinless, I am pleased you mentioned Dominic Douglas as I didn't in my post.
I thought he did OK when he came on and it was good to see someone who could throw the ball into the penalty area. Something we haven't had since Stuart Myall left us.
I do think a lot of the anger was really frustration that this team beat the unbeaten league leaders on their own soil a week before and then didn't appear to have been introduced to each other before the kick off yesterday.
Interesting to see that Haverhill suffered their first defeat of the season yesterday so they are beatable!

I talked to one of the player's dads before the game. It was interesting that he questioned the Club's ambitions re going up into the Conference, where a considerable amount of money is needed to survive. Which means the Club would require a new source to help financially with living at this level and thereby giving away power and control, which may never happen. So, Conference South could be the highest we're going to go. It's probably a topic / thread for another time, but if we're discussing the strength and depth of squads?? There are Clubs in this League that our obviously ambitious and primed for the next level e.g. Salisbury / Fisher / Lewes / Eastleigh / H&W...I wonder where we would put ourselves

It was Hooky v the rest at times. Douglas did OK but seemed woefully short of match fitness. Need to get Helmsley back from Bognor. Harding needs a start partnering Rambo up front. We looked dangerous from McArthur's corners and Dominic's long throws, but without Tucky we don't have a defender who looks like scoring from set pieces. In fact there hasn't been one since John Price!! Saturday could be a toughie. Need Armo back to settle things down.

Why Oh why are we so inconsistent? Why do we have no player's who have the ability to run past opposition players?...no pace. ..... Well, Alan. Two Seasons ago you signed a youngster called Loui Fazakerley. Maybe it was a mistake to let him go. Check out his current progress at www.http//leytonfc.com/ (+ action pics). Lower league, but still very competitive.

all these injuries ,for the early and pre season games we had loads of players which gradually got thined out,now look whats happened we are struggling to get a squad together.it seems that if players are left on the bench for more than 5 mins they leave for another club.shape up boys lets get stuck in next time and not roll over and die before halftime....
