According to the local paper, Gary & Nick are going for a smaller squad next season. They will not sit around and wait till almost the new season, but look for the right players to strengthen the team, ASAP

I expect we will have a look at John Piercy during our pre season matches, and if Oxford go down today maybe Yemi will return?

I guess the first port of call for news will be the Wednesday Gazette and Friday Herald. JP was carried off with hamstring injury - last game of season. So fitness is a big question mark here. His experience and talent would be top draw, but his shape is a bit Sponge Bob Square Pants! Yemi - wouldn't leave Oxford Utd without a fight, I'd guess, and the question would be, look at what happened to Boro when Yemi was with us...we became a one trick pony! We launched the ball to Yemi, whilst the Opposition sat two player's on him...we didn't seem to have another option to this masterplan by the other team. lol I hope that a number of players come into the Club and that we clear some lacklustre players out. Next year will be a big challenge for The Sports, I pray we are prepared for it with some new ideas.

I think it is probably not too difficult to note some of the players who will be released as a number of signings failed to make the team for more than the odd game.
I don't know if any are under contract but I am sure they will be released if they don't fit in with the management team's plans.
What I do hope is that we don't do as we did last season and use players in pre-season matches who have absolutely no chance of making the squad for the forthcoming season.
In addition I think it could be worth having a few more pre-season friendlies against County League sides to give more players a game including the youngsters and any triallists so we can see what they can do.

I see that despite all the talk, Lewes are a happy bunch with SK and Sigiere staying put. I also see that loads of players are being released at the moment. Hopefully it won't be long before we have something to be pleased about, it's been very quiet! Anyone know of any friendlies yet?

The cull has begun. Loui, Anton, Mark Green, Ollie released and Phil Warner on the transfer list. Ideas anyone?? Intriguing decision, but at least it is decisive, no mucking about! Loui didn't look threatning Mark didn't have the attacking full back quality? Was a fair defender - goal mouth clearances probablt helped to save our season, but was average at the end of the day, I guess. Anton not as good as he should have been, too many touches in the box, no end result. Ollie long term injury. Phil, lost his exceptional form from last season, and became lacklustre - ordinary. Is this just the beginning of changes or is this the end? Atkin / Smart / Baker / Keehan / Hemsley / Marney I would have thought might be shown the door, before the Official Boro news was revealed - Ramsay, Austin, Pullen, Newman, Storey, (Crabb?), Tuck I would Have guessed were as safe as houses. IMO

It is good that action has been taken to release players early to give them a chance to get fixed up with other clubs.
I agree that I expected Keehan, Hemsley and Marney also to feature but am surprised Mark Green has been released as he looked a useful addition towards the end of the season. I certainly did not expect Atkin to be released as I believe he will feature heavily next season if the problem with his work can be resolved. I know I upset the guys I sit with during the season as they all thought he was out of his depth but I have maintained that being a strong, tall player with an eye for goal he gives us some grit in midfield.
Also I am disappointed to see Phil Warner go as he is certainly a class player but I do admit he has not performed as well this season.
The squad without these players is not good enough to contest for promotion and I would like to see a few additions in all areas. I do believe Mark Corneille could do a job for us and also believe we should have a look at Pat Harding in the pre-season matches to give Rambo some much-needed challenge for the centre forward spot.
No doubt we will have much conjecture throughout the summer until our first game (probably with Bishop's Stortford away!)

people underestimate atkins, but i have seen him play and he will give you options and is a quality player. Boro supporters are always negative at certain players and ther should evulate people over a season not a few games. It will be interesting to see next yrs squad and who will generate the income now tony hylands has gone, who ever comes in has got ot have the experience and contacts to take the club to the next level. I would do it with my conatcts in the press and national accounts like Panasonic, sharp , nec , but i have had no response.
