Our you-14's were playing in a 6 a side tournament the other day and a few seconds from the end of our match our player went in and won the ball in a tackle with an opponent , the ref says " play on " the opponent then goes up to our defender and puts his face right into our defenders face and starts swearing abuse at him. Our defender pushed him away by putting his two hands onto the opponents shoulders and the player steps back . The referee then shows a straight red to the defender for violent conduct!!! This 13 year old gets a fine of £25 + £6 admin. Plus a 5 week ban!! Is there any referees out there as surely this isn't classed a violent conduct. He can appeal but it will mean an additional £25 on top making £56. and is it worth it He has not even been booked in over 5 years of playing. It seems extreemly harsh for 13 years old for a 1st offence since he started playing football , is it worth appealing??

Im not a ref but how is a minor supposed to pay a £25 fine and admin cost, i would appeal because there is no way a 13year old can pay that sort of money, also if there was any one else see what happend take them with you,if you appeal best of luck

I was a qualified referee until abiout 6 years ago.. so my opinion may well be out of date. Firstly, it all depends on which FA is governing the matches. Secondly, whilst not condoning the behaviour of the player that shouted abuse, the fact that this lad raised both hands to him does I believe constitute violent behaviour, according the the letter of the laws of football. Third point, In my opnion, and this is the action I would have persued, I would have had a few stern words with both players and after the game called both managers and said "That musn't happen again, Get you players sorted" End of story! Was this a local friendly tournament ?? How old was the referee in charge
