Agree with Clavius about Masters, he does seem more assured than Banks and quicker to get the ball back in play. It was interesting that the usually very measured Ken McEwan was critical of both keepers in the programme.
For me, Harty was playing a midfield role with him and Crabb in front of Smart, and Brinkhurst and RT wide with Rook the target man up top. The idea here to use Harty and Crabb as the playmakers to get us building constructive passing attacks, and it did allow us to seize the initiative and get the early goal, plus we had some good chances for the second too.
It worked to an extent, the main problem being Crabb had an off evening while Smart also did not stand out. When chasing the game later we moved to a more orthodox 4-4-2.
I'm pleased the Argus report referred to the game as exciting as again I don't think the good play of the team has been recognised enough in the comments. It was certainly a long way from being dross.
Jury still out on lots of positions of course, not 100% convinced by Rook's all-round play but he did score a goal and make the second, so that's hardly bad going.
For me, we look more effective with Hutch and SJ in the team too, I would be looking to play them from the start. Harty is not having a dominant influence but I guess we must be realistic about what he can achieve given his lack of regular football for a very long time.

Question: What will we do when Garry doesn't want to continue after this season? We'd really want to be appointing at the very least a proven manager at this level, or would we chance it with an ex-pro looking to go into management? This has been a real concern for me.. I think maybe we need to reassess where the budget is spent on, maybe chopping the squad numbers down?
Certainly the main thing we need to invest in at the moment in my opinion is the academy and further improving facilities at the club - as priory lane is far from finished. Hopefully Garry can stay until these two areas become less of a squeeze on the budget and we can allocate more spending to the first team.

not sure about letting the squad get much smaller as earlier this season we couldn't even field 5 subs.

Kettering's state is so dire they only had two subs for the thrashing by York I'd say the kettering situation is a different matter entirely. Thats not a small squad issue, its severe financial issues and paying rent on two grounds thats eating them up. Their whole squad is transfer listed and players have been told 'take a pay cut or leave'. The idea behind a smaller squad for boro is to have a higher quality of players spanning the playing budget as oppose to twice as many 'ok' players to cover all areas. A smaller squad does work if you have a good youth/reserve system where players could set up if injuries or bans occur.
