An excellent result considering the diappointing long trip to Newport, the injury list and the fact that Basingstoke had won four of their last fixtures.
Keeps the faint play-off hopes alive although realistically it is nigh on impossible with 3 games in 5 days.
However, I think this has been an ecellent season with some excellent football played at times and Borough causing may of the top clubs serious problems. It is so good to be in this position after the uncertainty of a year ago.
At the bottom of the table it looks as though Weston will be playing in the Southern League next year with a real dogfight going on for the final relegation place.
In the Conference itself there is a distinct possibility that there will be three northern clubs to join St Albans in being relegated (unless Grays drop a place) which will mean a bit of movement between the North and South areas.
The players and management have earned their summer off but we would like to see a few more points next week (say nine!) and then they can go.

The worst news from Basingstoke is that Jay probably wont be playing again this season. I spoke to Garry shortly afterwards and he said that it was his collarbone.

Pl;ay-offs are still a real possibility. OK, the previous two games didn't do us any favours, but we now have three home games, two of them against play-off rivals. In addition, Bishop Stortford won't go up as their ground is not up to requirements, and Welling have also been rejected, subject to them being given time to get things sorted. Salisbury and Braintree have both passed muster and their grounds are considered ok. But that means we could finish in seventh place and still make the play-offs. In fact, I still think that we will be there, but we need a good crowd, in good voice, to start us on the right foot with a revenge win on Tuesday. But without Jay or Hooky, I can't see us winning our way through the play-offs, and if we lose on Tuesday then I wil, reluctantly, have to agree that it is the same division for us next year. Not that that is a bad thing, and the lads have done us proud, regardless of our final league position.
Who played in goal, by the way? And can any of you die-hard travelling supporters tell me how he did? A clean sheet is all that really matters, but it would be nice to know that it was justified!

I understand that Bishop Stortford's ground has been passed as ok for promotion and also that Welling are due to have their new floodlights installed over the next couple of weeks which should allow them promotion if achieved.
Ultimately we are dependent on other clubs failing to win their last games whilst winning all of ours.
When we reached the play offs two years ago it was all down to the last game when Bognor did us a favour by thrashing Dorchester. The fat lady has not yet started singing although she is in the building warming up!
Apart from the Bognor game which is all about Sussex pride, both our opponents next week need maximum points from the games so there will be no typical end-of-season matches. The games should be entertaining and I endorse shadwellarmy's plea for everyone to give the club their support this week - you can take breath on Sunday and recover until July when it starts all over again. Unless, of course we are in the play-offs when you must hold your breath a little longer.
Bad news about Jay - another casualty to add to the long list of walking wounded. Hopefully we will have enough players still standing next Saturday.

after going to neport and quite honestly getting out classed by a very good side .i think the lads showed great character yesterday in what was a tough game and at times quite meaty challenges and tasty to say the least.great shame to a good season for jay i wish him a speedy recovery and keep my fingers crossed for next week even though i think we will struggle to put a team together due to our continuing injury list .but overall a great season and good to have gary and nick and the team here for another 2 years and i believe if not this time he will get us to the dizzy heights of the conference

It was nice to get a result when you dont play particuarly well. I think the sending off helped and Taiter took his goals well. I don't think we can make the play-offs but it has been a great season and you have to take your hat off to the players

I hope to be proved wrong, but I dont think the current team or the management are good for conference. I think the team are mucked about to much.
