A very late but thoroughly deserved point against arguably the best side seen at Priory Lane this season. I felt we were comprehensively outplayed during the first half but defended valiantly against a physically strong side, with plenty of height at the back and that played at a high tempo. The Hawks had nine corners to our one in the opening 45 mins which tells its own story. Hooky looked at fault for Baptiste's goal and it was disappointing to concede such a soft one, but he made up for it with a stunning double save soon afterwards. Indeed we were perhaps fortunate to go in just a goal down at half-time despite a good save by the Havant keeper at the other end.
The second half however, was a diffferent story, as we enjoyed the best of the possession and Shane Gore kept Havant in front with 2-3 more good saves. Losing Marc Pullan fairly early on was a major blow (although Ben is a more than able 'deputy') but Darren Baker did a great job at containing Baptiste; whilst I though Jenks also had a good game. Not sure which boots Duncan had on though!
Given the pace that the ball was coming at the Havant player for the hand-ball, the penalty was arguably a bit 'ball to hands' but no more than we deserved from a very spirited performance. Another point taken off a top five side, with Bishop's Stortford to come on Saturday.

Definitely a point gained tonight after a strong Havant team outplayed and outfought us in the first half. A very disappointing soft goal to give away and we could well have conceded a second soon afterwards if Lee Hook hadn't made an excellent save.
I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall in the dressing room during the half time interval as the team started to play the football we have seen in other matches, gaining in confidence as the second half went on. Gary Wilson and Nick Greenwood certainly stirred the team up.
Matt Crabb made a difference when he came on and was keen to run at players which is what we like to see him do. Our get out of jail card came in the shape of the late penalty well despatched by Rambo.
My disappointment during the second half was the continual harrassment of the linesman by the Havant bench which went unpunished. Perhaps this is how they usually carry on and maybe with weak officials they can influence decisions. What some of these officials have to put up with!

Great to see a game again, and a good game it was too. First half I thought Havant were clearly the best team to have visited Priory Lane this season. They were fast, physical, ran well off the ball and in Baptise had a genuine quality centre forward. I was relieved when we got to half time only one goal behind. But as they say, ‘it was a game of two halfs’. Clearly Garry and Nick had a ‘quite’ word in the dressing room, because the lads came out full of fight for the second half. As the time ticked by, I thought it was going to be one of those games were we couldn’t turn pressure into goals, but the reward finally came, albeit late, very late. No doubt about the decision and no doubt about Rambo’s cool finish into the bottom corner.
Overall the team showed real commitment to keep the pressure on until the end. The back line rode their luck in the first half but contained Havant impressively in the second. Baker yet again was superb, Austin filled in well for the injured Pullen. (Is it a hamstring pull? if so thats a blow). Jenkins and especially Lovett pushed forward well towards the end. Armstrong marshalled the middle well throughout as ususal. Agree with DavidB about McArthurs boots, he seemed to waste a lot of freekicks, his deliver is usual a lot better. Wilde tried, but I must admit to preferring to see Crabby running at the defenders. Harding I think is wasted wide, he looks more nature in the middle of the front line. Rambo and Atkin battled but I would guess both, especially Rambo weren’t 100% fit.
Good performance, fair size crowd – hope for more of the same on Saturday
