In recent seasons i have seen boro play the long ball quite a bit, with great effect on many occaisons.Hooky or a defender would launch it up to rambo,he would win the header, flick it on (9 times out of ten), hold it up and wait for the cavalry to arrive,or even win a valuable free kick in an advanced posistion. This route of football is not the most prettiest but can win games (which is what it is all about) it also gives defenders a breather if under pressure. I dont think this is going to be an option anymore purely because we dont have the aerial power of the big striker .Andy atkins is good in the air but prefers to be in front of goal IMO,as grumps said "the ball seems to be taking a little longer to get forward" is this a result of the team as a whole trying to keep the ball on the deck and play? If this is the case then it may take alittle time to adapt.Obviously with new signings things change. Please note that this is only an observation, but i would like to know what a few of you guys think?

How we do without one all season? Are we now saying that we have no out and out striker If my memory serves me right didnt a certain Mr Atkin finish up as top scorer last season... Dont tell me, he didnt hit one as a "target" man ? what the hell constitutes being a "target" man anyway..... Please please please do tell just how many goals we scored last season after Hooky hit the ball up front to the edge of the penalty area to a "target" man.... bet you havent used more than 2 fingers on one hand!!!! Andy Atkin is more than a handful up front and certainly moves faster than Rambo did in later years... Siggy certainly seems to have a fair bit of body strength too.... Tait has his moments and lets all remember the impact he had 2 seasons ago in the march to may run in.... We you asked for opinions.... thats mine!!

I see your point snellbert. Scott was a good target man. He always won the flick ons and held the ball up well. But i think Atkin can do that too. Maybe not as well but its still an option to play that way.

We all know that they can play football. We have seen it. But consistancy is the name of the game. Doing it week in week out. Which we dont. How many times have we seen a fantastic performance and a great win, followed by a poor performance and a scraped draw or defeat. I think this season we can only take one game at a time and hope they raise their game enough to get some results. If we play like we did on saturday at this level we will be buried by half time. But the same 11 can also turn it on too. I think we should play to our strengths and hope we are good enough to stay up. Then next season worry about more ambitious stuff. And in 10 years time we may win the FA cup. After all, Wimbledon did it. Mind you, where are they now? So however we play, we will need some guts and aggresion. Cue Matt Smart.
