Having seen three of the pre season games I think it's difficult. For me Sigere has not done enough,Pat Harding and Budd have been impressive I really don't know, hold tight as we move into un chartered waters. What I do know is that we have to keep supporting whatever happens.

think it will be 1 Hook 2 Baker 3 jenkins 6 Pullan 5 Austin 21 Harkin 18 Wormull 8 Armstrong 11 Matt Crabb 9 Atkin 15 N. Crabb
subs budd lovett sigerie winterton tait
still wondering though if winterton will start but i think they will go with Hook at the moment
think they need to start nathan crabb as he can change games being in the right place at the right time and he ll be our only source of pace up front.

Same as James06, but Harding on left wing rather than Matt Crabb? Harding, even on his "wrong" peg looks more effective than Matt. MAtt still not picking the right balls in. He appears to choose the wrong option too often, when making his attacking runs. Yet, his corner kicks look better; last season he wasn't getting past the first defender on the near post with his kicks. It could be that he is saving his best for the real games, but I've not been impressed with what I've seen. Harding, like alot of the side, doesn't have excillerating pace; including Nathan Crabb, who was beaten to the ball by the Bromley Centre Half defender (who'd been on the pitch for the whole game!) but atleast he is getting clever kicks in and looks more of a threat in side the 18 yrd box. I thought that Siggy was showing an improvement, holding the ball up with his strength and knocking short balls in to the other attacker....TAit was grinding his gears and making no headway. Siggy and Atkin up front for me. I thought that Smart was effective and tenacious when he came on. I think that it is best to play the four top teams from the start of the season. THe Full timers will be not up to optimum speed with fitness yet and we will have an opprtunity to steal points. At the other half end of the season these sides will be peaking and we, as part timers, will be fading - to some extent, and it will be more difficult to impress upon them. IMO

have to disagree there im afraid vern, hardings posistion is right midfield for me,he seem to play really well in the run in last season, play them to their strengths ,left midfield you need a left peg, crabby for me! I remember about 3 or 4 seasons ago when welling came to the lane on a tues night and paul parker (ex man utd ) was their manager he said "if crabby was playing football in london he would be playing league standard".I think if he can stay fit and plays regular i think you will get a good return out of crabby over the course of a season, 8 or 10 goals may be, plus assists! IMO As for n crabb having no pace thats a bit like saying jordans got no boobs !! IMO

For what it's worth (and that isn't much) I have a feeling that the starting line-up next Saturday will be similar to the one that started yesterday, with the exception of Armstrong replacing Budd alongside Wormull in midfield, as I can't believe G&N will leave either of them out.
In goal - Winterton has great potential but I still think Hook will start.
I think that barring injury, the back four picks itself, although I would also prefer another defensive option on the bench e.g. Andy Ballard.
Midfield - I was impressed with Pat Harding on the left vs Horsham a couple of weeks back, but agree he is a more naturally right-sided player ... well, actually a striker! Garry tends to favour Matt Crabb on the left though, and feel he will want Harkin's experience on the right of midfield.
Up front - I still think Nathan will be used more as an 'impact' player from the bench, to run at tiring defenders. Sigere still doesn't look fully fit to me, so I think it will be Tait alongside Atkin.

I wouldn't like to be in Garry or Nicks boots at this tricky period..Its going to be a very tough decision.

For me, it would be:
Hook
Austin Baker Pullen Jenkins
Harkin Armstrong Wormull M.Crabb
Harding
Atkin subs: Winterton Sigre Lovett N Crabb
I think the keeper and back four are really a shoe-in, at least until injuries, suspensions, loss of form or exceptional performancies in the reserves force a change, I can't see any of the four midfielders I've chosen not being in, and it gives us width with players quite capable of running at defenders and causing problems on both wings, Harding is, IMO, best used as a floater between the midfield and the attack, moving back to cover in defence and laying short balls in in attack, and can move up as a striker if Atkin is injured, Wormull is a must and could be our best player this season, which leaves Atkin alone up front.
N Crabb to do what he does best - come on late in the game and run at tired defenders.
Leaves no room for Budd or Tait, who were a toss-up with Sigere and Lovett on the bench, but I think that my formation gives us alternatives up front, and, if need be, we could play with a three man 'back four' with Lovett dropping back to help out, as he has done before, although it is far from his best position.
This all means, IMO, that we have a better team than ever before, with more options. The last few seasons, the starting team has pretty much chosen itself, the only arguements being who would sit on the bench at the start. Now we have at least two obvious first team starting players who will have to be left out of the squad entirely, and a not 100% obvious choice for the starting keeper.
Whatever starting line-up is chosen, let's hope for 3 points!

My team for Saturday would be Hook Austin – Baker – Pullen – Jenkins Harding – Wormull – Armstrong – Harkin Tait – Atkin
subs Winterton Lovett Budd N Crabb Sigere
I think Winterton must be pushing Hook, who I think, is an outstanding shot stopper hard for a starting place. He seems so much more vocal and commanding in the games I’ve seen. Our lack of goals pre-season is my only worry. Roll on Saturday!

Our lack of goals pre-season is my only worry. 11 goals in six games and you're worried about a 'lack of goals' ?

Hi Andrew I should have said ‘lack of goals against better teams’. Seven of the pre-season goals have come from games against Town and Horsham. Maybe I’m worrying unduly

Well Horsham are a decent side only two divisions below and gave Swansea a fright in the FA Cup last season - but I appreciate the point.
