I would like to see something better!
Is it not about time we tried the formation and team we are going to use in the league and see how they play? Todate it seems to have been about fitness, but we shall have to play a few matches with a decent arrangement!
The old problems are foremost. the team are not getting the ball to the front line. IMO.

I would hope the team on Tuesday will be better than the past, I have seen enough of players that lack experience. Nothing against them, but our experienced players have to do the job.

surely it would be better if boro played teams to the ability that they will be playing next season, whats the point of playing teams that boro played last season, should give themselves a challenge rather than play teams lower than them like they always do!! havant played west ham there playing chelsea soon.

Won 3-1.
Starting line-up: Winterton Ballard, Pullen, Baker, Jenkins Lovett, Armstrong, Wormull, Harding Atkin, Nathan Crabb
Always looked in command first half, with a sweet strike from Armstrong giving us a 1-0 lead. Harding worked particularly hard down the left flank and got in a few good crosses.
Second half saw wholesale changes and predictably Horsham came more into it as we made the necessary adjustments (Tait in midfield for example). Horsham hit the bar from long range, and Dominic Douglas (at centre back) cleared off the line before Lee Farrell equalised.
Two goals in the last five minutes settled it. First a near post header by Sigere from (I think) a Harkin cross; then an excellent move saw Harkin find Sigere, who laid the ball into the path of Tait to make it 3-1.
Horsham will probably feel it was a little harsh, but had this been a competitive game I am sure we would have won comfortably. The important thing was to give everyone a run-out, with Budd, Archibald, Matt Crabb and Austin also getting in the second half.

looking good then. personally i have full faith in the gaffers methods in pre-season. ive seen Reading FC do exactly the same thing.
i used to coach at Reading FC about 3 years ago. every season they'd go on a pre-season tour of sweden and beat unknown teams 13-1 etc etc. seems pointless to some people, but Stevie Coppell has always maintained that the reason he likes to play lower level teams is for several reasons....
1) to give the team a good run out and raise match fitness levels in time for the season. 2) getting into the habit of scoring goals is a good thing and can be a psychological bonus if you've already bagged 5-6 goals before the season starts, regardless of the opposition. it builds confidence, especially in the strikers. and confidence is extremely important for a striker. if a striker feels confident that he can score, chances are he's going to have a crack at goal more often than someone whose doubting himself because he hasn't scored since last season. 3) to give some of the fringe players a chance to see how they can link up with the experienced squad. saves experimenting in competitive games and getting things wrong. 4) Gives the manager the chance to try out new formations and see whether the squad can cope with changes in the way they play the game. (e.g. trying a new counter attacking style with new players and seeing if they can pull it off)
im not bothered about the scoreline results, or whether we won or not, but the fact were hearing good positive things about the way the players are gelling fills me with optimism and it feels like things are going the right way.
thanks for the match report DB. nice one.

Don't you think we could have been 1st above Lewes then! I do. I get fed up with 2nd best is good enough. We have to work very hard to get established this year.

No-one ever said that second best was good enough, and of course we would rather have finished above Lewes (and above Dorchester when we were pipped on goal difference for that matter). However, winning promotion to the highest level of non-League football when the club was playing in the County League less than ten years ago, and on a relatively small budget, is a fabulous achievement and widely recognised across non-League.
I am getting the impression that there are some 'supporters' out there that still have little conception of quite what has been achieved, or more importantly what we are going to be up against this season.
Yes, we will have to work very hard to become established this season, but it also requires a more pragmatic attitude amongst some of the support, or they are going to be bitterly disappointed.
I am already anticipating all the negative, uninformed comments on here when we lose a couple of games, accompanied by the "I pay £12.50 to watch the side therefore I am entitled to my views" etc.
The facts are these, just in case anyone hasn't quite grasped them yet:
1. Borough will be competing (for the most part) against well-established full-time professional clubs next season. The demands both on and off the pitch will be substantial. 2. The majority of our players have never played at that level; Garry & Nick have never managed or coached at that level; none of the Committee have experience at that level. I am not suggesting that they are not 'up to it' but adjustments take time 3. We are still part-time and operating with a small squad out of financial necessity 4. Len Smith will not allow Garry & Nick to get the Club into financial difficulties. If necessary, we will treat this as 'experience' for the future
Just accept those facts and you will save yourself a trip to hospital with high blood pressure.
