We are now in the top tier of non-league football and will be noticed alot more nationally due to that fact, but do you think Eastbourne Borough will ever be a full-time, fully proffesional league side or is the BSP(national conference) the highest they will ever be?

will have to be fulltime eventually but it will most probably be done in stages if we stay in this league

most clubs go fulltime if planning to really compete in the BSP. big reason for that is player fitness. a lot of clubs are full time in this league, meaning their players train full time. their skills and techniques improve as a result, as would their fitness levels. all the time ebfc are part time, our players will probabaly less fit. this sort of thing comes into play over the course of a league season. especially in the 75th-80th minute of a match when ebfc players are coughing up blood and begging for their inhalers, whilst our opponents are still happy to do another lap of the pitch. (bit of an extreme, but you can see how it would make a difference). its very difficult to get a squad 100% match fit when only training part time, it requires full time dedication.
the club would also be more attractive to full time players from this league or higher. if a full time player moves to a part time club, i imagine it would be seen as quite a step back for them career wise.
however, its very dangerous for a club to just become full time. it would mean all the existing part time players quitting their day jobs and committing full time. this means double the wages essentially as they will have to live on this. but if EBFC were to drop back down again, the club wouldnt be able to afford those wages anymore. hence why it needs to be done gradually. often a club will wait until its in a stronger financial position before committing to full time, and often only the new players who join from now on would get offered full time contracts, and exisiting playing staff would have their contracts reviewed once their current contracts run out. as you can probabaly imagine, it's a pretty lifechanging thing to take the risk of giving up your office job and committing full time to football, especially if you have a wife and kids and theres a chance it might not work out.
but if EBFC want to stay in thie league for a long time, they will eventually need to consider making that move to full time. when that day comes, it'll be a huge milestone for them and definately something to celebrate because it will show how far the club has come.
