What a miserable bunch of comments!
We have been promoted to the top tier of non-league football for crying out loud!!
We will be playing the likes of Oxford(again) who were once in Division 1(what i now the premiership) and also once won the league cup, Wrexham who have been in Europe before(yep thatd right, Wrexham in europe, due to them winning the welsh cup!), Cambridge United, who got to the quater finals of the fa cup two years running, who were at their peak in div 2(the championship) just missing out on promotion to the very top, after finishing 5th and reachin the play-off but failing to progress, in the old Dion Dublin days! As well as Torquay, York,Mansfied and Kidderminster who have obviously all been league clubs.
What does that mean? Well in general, a better style of football, you could see unfortunately the difference in class between us and Weymouth in the cup this season, and Weymouth are not exactly the best in the BSP, only just avoiding relegation! With the better football, you shall also get maybe abit of diving and the like, which i do not aprove and that is a negative point but it's not enough to make me be all miserable about being in the blue square premier!
Also it will put Eastbourne on the map abit more, it really is to be honest, quite shameful that for the population we have here, that we have only just managed to get a side in the top tier of non-league, there are many places with far smaller populations, who have established league sides! But we will now have tv coverage on Setanta(i know thats not much, as not many people fancy forking out a tenner a month but still..), plus we now get our result read out by that guy on final score each saturday lol!, as well as having reports on the club on the national BBC football website, plus much more. Generally it will just be nice to say" I support Eastbourne Borough" to someone who doesnt live locally and for them to know who we are talking about.
Yes we might not be playing little tiny teams in the early stages of the fa cup anymore a daddyhorsense pointed out, we will however enter thecup just one round before the first round, obviously making our chances of reaching the first round much greater, therefor making our chances of playing a league side(we could get leicster city in the first round!) and getting a live tv coverage game much greater, also it obviously means we have less hurdles to get over to reach the third round, where we could be seeing the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool at priory lane!
Yes we won't be seeing Eastbourne thumping the likes of Fisher and Basingstoke,as some have pointed out and yes it is going to be alot tougher and yes we are not going to be seeing Eastbourne near the top next season, i think we will stay up but it won't be easy! But what would you prefer? That we just stay in the southern division every season and refuse to be promoted, because we always want to see big results and lots of glory?
It is great that we have been promoted and I for one am very happy!
