By a funny coincidence Francis Vines has been named Farnborough manager today.

A ggood mate and a some one who is in close contact with Lewes has rung me... It would appear that the club has a new consortium from Brighton in charge and, having signed a one year contract last year, King had verbally agreed to a second season. The new consortium has declined to honour this verbal agreement... That is what I have been told tonight.

I can never honestly say I have been a Steve King fan but you have to respect the guy for what he has done with Lewes FC over the past few years.
If the rumours are true it does seem an unbelievable time to let it slip out - surely the powers that be at Lewes could have held onto it until after tomorrow.
I think it is no secret that Lewes would have to find a lot more money to get the Dripping Pan up to the next standard required by the end of the year and perhaps the club were concerned that for Steve King to keep the club in the National Conference he would also require a lot of money.
By encouraging investors who presumably can dictate their terms which obviously would include their own manager perhaps the Lewes board could see a more stable financial future for the club.
However it doesn't take rocket science to appreciate that in many clubs where outside investors come in everything in the garden isn't suddenly rosy. Managers appear to come and go (as do the investors) and the club can suddenly find themselves in receivership and forced to start again three leagues lower down i.e. Hornchurtch, Farnborough! Crawley supporters still don't know the full details of the consortium who own their club some three weeks after the event.
We all know that promotion will bring increased financial commitments and Borough will need more sponsorship plus increased gates to stay there. However, at least they will not be relying on outside investors who must surely want something back for investing their hard-earned cash in the football club.
In the meantime we need to keep focused on the next four matches and not be distracted by what is happening 14 miles along the A27.

Or maybe what he'd already written there himself. Stay Conference South, look what this has done to us already. Now, we know a lot of Boro fans don't like Kingy, and likewise some Lewes ones don't either. But if you're not busy, get down to the Pan and help express our thoughts. We need to keep non leage, non league. This isn't Liverpool.

Sorry but Lewes have only achieved what they have because of the money their board has put in. They are perfectly entitled to have whoever they wish as manager. Lewes fans were quick enough to celebrate their success because of the hand outs but now their benefactors want to have a say they come up with all the big bad greedy owners crap.
If the recent article in the Argus King says he wants to stay and thanks the board for paying for the ground improvements. He makes no mention of the money being used to pay for/pay the players and tries to suggest that all the success on the pitch was down to him !!! The man is deluded!!!
Whats the saying.... oh yea... 'cash is King!!'

Looked at their forum again and the fans don't know whether to laugh or cry after the joy of going up then the news about the manager all in a matter of days. Do have some sympathy for them as they have been treated very badly, but not as bad as Mr King. Think that was his job so for the sake of his family I hope he gets a deserved chance elsewhere soon. So glad our club is run the way it is.

I thought Mr King was an agent as well ? So I don't think he'll be totally on his backside. Still a rotten thing to have done regardless of what team it is.
