Hopefully Eastbourne will win the play-off's or better still Lewes will botch things up, right at the last hurdle and we go up automatically as champions(wishful thinking, i know!) but if neither of those two things happen, i am interested in what teams new teams we will be playing next season in the blue square south and i was looking at the teams struggling to stay up from the BS Premier and the majority of them are all Northen! If you look at the 4 currently in the relegation zone, 3 of them are most deffinately Northern teams, would be ridiculous to count Halifax,Droylsden or Northwich as southern teams, as for Stafford they are obviously in the Midlands, slightly more north than south i would say but i guess they could go in the south, but as for the others would be very strange to regard them as southeners and would be a long old journey from the south coast and if you look at the other teams just above the drop zone, Altrincham( ) are obviously from the north, as are farsley. Only Weymouth who are from the south and have a chance of being relegated as Woking,Crawley and above, are safe now. So basically erm, who would go into the blue square south next season? ....Weymouth deffinately would but i dont think they will get relegated, and say they don't, i presume Stafford would be put in with south, as for the other placement, i don't have a clue how they will choose which northen team gets put with all the southerners for a season.

You'll probably see Worcester and/or Redditch moved to the Conf South as there the most southern in the conf north. That's if 4 northern teams are relegated in the National.

Then there is the other end. Whos coming up? One or two from the Ryman premier. Thats Chelmsford, possibly wimbledon with crowds touching 2500!! Intersting conf south next season and a very difficult to get out of i think!!

This is an interesting subject/debate. People on this forum know I enjoy stats! An excellently produced theory to evoke discussion is found at Tony's site: www.tonykempster.co.uk/maps08-09.htmMy understanding is the FA Leagues committee will make end of season decisions over team gradings and levels.

updated play off link after the games this weekend: www.tonykempster.co.uk/maps08-09.htm [be]Top half of League Table[/be] 1 Lewes (P) 40 26 8 6 45 86 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 2 Eastbourne 41 23 11 7 46 80 3 Hampton 40 20 13 7 32 73 4 Fisher 41 21 5 15 3 68 5 Eastleigh 41 19 10 12 17 67 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 6 Newport 40 18 12 10 19 66 7 Bath City 41 17 14 10 23 65 8 Bromley 41 19 7 15 12 64 9 Havant 41 18 10 13 5 64 10 be/Stortford40 18 9 13 13 63 11 Braintree 40 17 12 11 8 63 Who we meet in the play offs could well depend on the result of Newport v Fisher next Saturday. I expect Newport to win their Monday home match v Thurrock and jump to 69 pts. Whatever team we meet the two games aint going to be easy. At least we'll have home advantage 2nd leg on Sunday 4th May. Whatever your take on play offs in general you must admit it generates enormous end of season excitement (and heartbreak but not for us hopefully )

Tricky - as far as I am aware we still play the second leg of the Play Off semi final at home on Saturday 3rd May and not the Sunday. The 2nd leg is on the Sunday for the Conference North teams.
However, do correct me if I have missed an announcement from the league.

Taffy, thanks for the update. I'm wrong you're correct as it is Sat May 3rd. I took my info from Tony's site. I've now sent him an email. . . told him to sort it out pronto ;D

I can never understand, having lived in Oz why the playoffs dont use the same system as they have for all their sports.
Thus 2 plays 3 and the winner goes through to the final.
4 plays 5 and the loser goes out.
Then the loser of 2 v 3 gets a second chance as a reward for finishing higher and plays the winner of 4 v 5 for the second final spot.
Its called earning a double chance and actually gives some recognition that finishing 2nd or 3rd counts for something, which I reckon is fairer than this system where it makes no difference where you finish.

[be]Monday night FT:[/be]

[be]Monday Night Table: (relevance for play offs)[/be]
Boro: Pl 41 (+46) Pts 80 Hampton: PL 41 (+32) Pts 73 Fisher: PL 41 (+3) Pts 68 Eastleigh: PL 41 (+17) Pts 67 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Newport: PL 41 (+ 16) Pts 66 Bath: PL 41 (+ 23) Pts 65 Bromley: PL 41 (+12) Pts 64 Havant: PL 41 (+5) Pts 64 Bishop/S: PL 40 (+13) Pts 63 Braintree PL 40 (+8) Pts 63
With Newport losing, 5th play off place is wide open, especially if, on Tuesday evening, Braintree beat already relegated Dorchester & Bishops Stortford beat Welling.

I have a spreadsheet where I do predictions for results and a predicted table and if it's right there's going to be a lot of heartbreak on the last day. Of course my predictions are not normally accurate so this probably wont happen now that I've predicted it, but here is my table from 4th downwards.
4 Fisher 68 +3 5 Eastleigh 67 +18 ----------------------------------- 6 Bromley 67 +16 7 Newport 67 +15 8 Braintree 67 +9 9 Havant & W 67 +6 10 Bath 66 +23 11 Bishop S 65 +13
