Eastbourne Borough were dumped out of the last 8 of the Cup 3 -2 away at Arundel.
After controlling the first half and dealing with some industrial challenges and bizarre refereeing Boro threw away a 2 goal lead to lose AET
A George Stonestreet cross that Alex Bralsford failed to connect properly with and a Charlie Mackay header that came off the bar were the only real chances in a fiercely contested first 45 but Arundel themselves were restricted to long shots and never really troubled the Boro goal.
A minute after the restart the visitors took the lead after keeping the ball for almost 20 passes in a move which led to a penalty being awarded and coolly converted by Mackay.
And after 50 minutes a Stonestreet cross went straight in between the keepers hands while under no pressure.
Unfortunately Boro took their foot off the gas and a misunderstanding between Hilfiker and Victor Guy lead to a deflected shot going in for 1 - 2 and an innocuous penalty to even up the earlier one made it 2-2.
In extra time Boro won and missed another penalty and late on Arundel won it with a sliced shot from inside the box.
Steep learning curve for all the U16s playing in the cup run and respect to the lads for not reacting during the game and after the final whistle.
Sour grapes and sorry for the short report but still fuming at 5:22 PM...
