Eastbourne Borough u18s and Worthing drew 1-1 at Priory Lane in the Ryman Youth league.
On a perfect night for football league leaders Worthing maintained their unbeaten record and Boro remained unbeaten at home in an exciting game of two halves on Thursday. (16/10)
Even with three regulars missing the home side started well and created two or three decent chances in the opening exchanges but their finishing was a little wayward until Jordan Astell's pinpoint cross was met by Charlie Mackay's unstoppable bullet header on 25 minutes.
The rest of the half saw Boro on top but with both sides playing good passing football the game was always in the balance.
The first 20 minutes of the second half saw Worthing take the game to their opponents and with Boro sitting far too deep the home goal was always vulnerable. Some unusual refereeing decisions added to the drama but even after the post and the bar were rattled by the away side Boro held out and came back into the contest.
Charlie Morley could have made the game safe but shot straight at the 'keeper when a space appeared in front of him in the box on 75 and 10 minutes later yet another Worthing attack was foiled but as the ball was drilled back into the area it hit a home defender and deflected into the goal with no chance for anyone to reach it.
Even with 5 minutes left Boro could have nicked the win with a couple of chances but it wasn't to be and both sides had to settle for a share of the points.
Overall though a good advert for the Ryman Youth League and with two U16s getting 90 minutes (and two more on the bench) the future is looking good for Boro.
