Whilst his suggestions make sense, I'm kind of allergic to the notion of having Brighton colour our stadium blue and white and determine our kit in the same manner that Man City have done at Hyde.. I feel too many connections between non-league clubs and Prem/FL clubs would lead to a highly unequal relationship - that said it is certainly something that could be considered as a financial no-brainer in harsh economic times. Highly outrageous that not one of the authorities even bothered to politely respond to his proposals.. not really surprising though either.
The FA Vase/FA Trophy finals being played on the same day, whilst making obvious financial sense, comes with the problem that the FA Vase may be overshadowed by the Trophy game and seen as a side spectacle.
On the CC matches being played at the end of the season: Yes. Really, during the season, we can't place much importance on games against Crawley Down (with all respect to CD) when the League/FA Cup/Trophy is where the money is and ultimately what the club exists on. It's also a severe strain on the smaller squads and inevitably lower fitness levels of a largely part-time pool of clubs.
Flexible season end dates: Yes. But it shouldn't become a general practice in my view due to confusion, possibly expensive rearrangements having to be made and player loan periods being affected - only in extremes like Bacup Borough this season for example should this be considered.
Free you-16 entry: We've discussed this already, generally agreed it makes more sense than not and have reduced our entry for U16 from £4 to £1.. not sure why we decided on a token £1, but even for kids thats near enough free. Would recommend this to all other NL clubs.
Beer: sure, why not? Been to games around Germany and in all the games I've been to (spanning all the top leagues: the Bundesliga, 2. Liga, 3. Liga and the Regionalliga) they've served beer on the terraces. Yeah, ok. Football has a dubious record with alcohol, but I think on the crowds we get at this level big problems aren't likely to arise. Licensing is of course an issue.
Non-League Day permanent: Yes.
An "escalator payment" of one year for promotion: brilliant idea.
Ground grading: A basic minimum should be required - turnstiles, capacity etc depending on the league. As regards seating requirements: Some clubs end up having more seats than they have fans and have no real likelihood of moving up the leagues any time soon. Stricter ground grading requirements should really kick in around the Conf. Premier level when the amount of fans coming every week require a decent stadium. Relaxing the ground grading requirements too much though could mean having to watch football being played in a shack of a stadium with 0 facilities.. which also wouldn't be cool.
