ALL i can say is that for once can the club actually try to get some decent teams down for friendlies, so we can generate some extra money and support, it is so frustrating every year when I see were playing poor sides like st. francis rangers, folkestone etc as this is not good practice for the players and normally ends in a narrow borough win, they need to be tested!! maybe Gillingham, or some other league 2 sides

In the past the problem with playing league sides is that invariably they will have sent their reserve/youth teams with just the odd player who has experienced first team football.
As the purpose of pre-season friendlies is to get players fit whilst playing teams who would provide good competition (and teams from leagues lower than ours would tend to raise their game) this is the way we have gone with one match against a Conference National side. Also it enables the management to see what combinations of players work the best.
Now we are in that position we could probably have one match against a league 1 or 2 side who would be expected to put in a fair number of first team players. The friendly against Arsenal or Chelsea first team isn't going to happen.
The Bromley friendly is an ideal match for the players and probably a friendly against Havant and Waterlooville with their new team would be a really good test for the team. Not that I enjoy playing them but it would be good to see how we fare.
I do agree that matches against County League opposition would probably not now be of much benefit but the match with Horsham will bring us Liam Baitup and possibly Stuart Myall (if he is still there) against their old side.

Just to note that I wasn't aware of the Havant friendly when I suggested it. It will be a great test for us.
