Friends, I don't often post here, mainly because - as you probably know - I have reservations about the anonymous nature of many posts/posters.
This place is what its name declares - an Unofficial Forum - but it is read by supporters of many other clubs, right across non-league, who will regard it simply as the Eastbourne Borough forum. We all have a responsibility that it should reflect our club. In times past it did so, and there were great exchanges of opinions, amusing banter, tactical wisdom, deeply held views. The anonymity didn't especially matter because we tended to know each other anyway, be they Maz or Trig or Big John or whoever.
But as a club, we have to protect our values and look out for our players. We had more than one post this week, of either casual or deliberate disrespect towards players. Out of order. This forum should never be a place where players - or other members - can be sniped at or insulted. That's very different from opinions, banter or a fair exchange of views. Same goes for club officials. If people have questions or worries, go and seek out the manager, or John Bonar or Dave Blackmore. They aren't exactly shrinking violets. Same also goes for your press officer. You are welcome to extract the Michael out of me (and my pompous posts!) any time you like, but preferably to my face.
Anyway, I'm writing this in positive mode and not negative. I think maybe it's time to reclaim the Forum. Fill it with opinions and anecdotes and humour and buoyancy and friendliness. Snatch the lungfuls of happy support that all of you gave to the players at full-time at Slough yesterday, and turn them into something positive. What a smashing day that was - a proper non-league occasion with a great result (ok, we should have had all three points) at very friendly hosts, and what a terrific sense of unity between players, staff, supporters. That was the spirit of the true Eastbourne Borough/Langney Sports. That's what this place can be too. Reclaim the Forum.
