Eastbourne Borough Ryman 18s kept up their 5 game unbeaten run going with a powerful performance winning 7-2 at Priory Lane on Monday (16th) against local rivals Eastbourne Town.
After watching a youthful Town side beat Lewes a week earlier a couple of changes were made to the line up and although tough on the rested/replaced players they worked very well with Charlie Mackay getting the perfect hat trick (left foot right foot header) from midfield.
That said, Boro started a little slowly and for the first 10 minutes the teams were evenly matched. But on the quarter hour mark Jacob Merrick got behind the defence to cross for Mackay to slot his first.
A minute later Merrick put another great ball into the box for Tom Clift to glance home for 2-0. Town went straight up the other end and forced Ollie Cornford, Boro's u16 keeper to make a good stop but on 20 the game was pretty much sealed when Nick Richardson crossed for Mackay to get his second.
The home side did lose a bit of concentration and a couple of formation changes from the away side unsettled the reds. Town got a goal back which gave them a boost but a minute before the break Richardson curled a hotly disputed free kick around the wall into the net for 4-1.
Boro started slowly in the second 45 and let the visitors in again for 4 -2 but Mackay got his hat trick with a header and picked up an accidental punch in the mouth for his bravery too.
Richardsons pace punished a tiring back four and he put away a one on one for the 6th and another great set piece from substitute Toby Clifford set up skipper John Reeves to complete the rout.
Good to see a local derby played in a good spirit and in front of a decent crowd of 89 at The Lane. One home game left against Lewes in a couple of weeks and a chance for the Boro boys to go undefeated at home in the League all season.
