Where we are, who we are and what we expect. I'd love to see Borough get a tilt at the play-offs and I agree every club must have ambitions - measured and achievable ambitions. I did go to Whitehawk yesterday - awful conditions, errr unique surroundings and actually an exciting game. Whitehawk and Bromley do have high ambitions, possibly unsustainable ones. It's high-risk stuff when you pitch for promotion with a wage bill that might well be three times as high as Borough's. But Conference South is a good league and it's important not to throw away what we have for what we might one day achieve. Some people evidently agree - I picked up this comment on the Bromley messageboard afterward their defeat yesterday. Well said, mate.
"Some good comments above.
My take, for what it's worth: We didn't play poorly but the Hawks were better. The pitch shouldn't be blamed. Whitehawk are a worthy top three side. We are a good prospect for the play-offs but any thought of automatic promotion needs to be tempered with the evidence of our eyes: ie, despite the considerable investment, we are not the same force this season as we were last.
The funny thing is: last season we had a great team and were at one point odds-on to win the League - but the culture among many of the supporters was not even to mention the P word. This year the team is second-rate by comparison but the P word has been on most peoples' lips since before the season began. I hate to say it - and will be crucified for doing so - but perhaps it's now time to get real; let's enjoy the rest of the season as a Conference South side - and perhaps acknowledge that that's not at all a bad thing to be.
Does anyone really want to go to Grimsby Town on a Tuesday evening to be stared at by high-vis jacket wearing Nazis and frisked for knives and guns? Does anyone really want to watch a team of preening millionaires with no connection to or feel for our town, Bromley?
Give me the Enclosed Ground, the Kent Senior Cup, the good company of my mates and life in the non-league any day."
