Eastbourne Borough Ryman 18s drew 0-0 with Bognor on Monday night.
The early season pace setters visited Priory Lane full of confidence coming off a 7 - 1 away win at Horsham but were frustrated by a hardworking Borough side.
The reds made a few changes from their October battering down at Nyewood Lane both to the squad and their normal open, attacking instincts and the game plan worked perfectly.
Both sides started brightly and passed the ball around neatly on a good pitch without really creating many clear cut chances. Front two Charlie Morley and Charlie Mackay constantly pressed the Bognor back four and never let them settle and with wingers James Stone and Jordan Astell tucking in and doing their jobs well the visitors struggled to play out from the back as they like to do.
That said, the visitors had a couple of chances around 20 minutes in when a long shot narrowly missed debutant keeper Harrison Hilfikers post and a great low cross fizzed across the box evading Borough centre backs Tom Clift and John Reeves and both Bognor attackers.
The home side came into the game at the end of the half growing in confidence and Mackay shot early without realising how much time he had from a great pass from Stone then the Bognor keeper had to be quick off his line as Mackay latched onto another good through ball.
Second half was much the same with Jacob Merrick and Chris Hutson having a great battle in centre midfield with their opposite numbers and trying to slot pinpoint passes through to the willing runners up top or overlapping full backs Victor Guy and Chris Hutchins.
Hilfiker made a fantastic point blank block from Bognor centre half and Borough academy player Dale Hayes but Borough shaded the second 45 and could have taken all three points when they had a goal disallowed for an alleged foul on the blues keeper by Reeves when pictures on the website show no offence! www.ebfc.co.uk/gallery.php?viewcategory=132
Overall though a great game to watch with two good teams evenly matched on the night played in a great spirit and enjoyed by a decent crowd and scouts from both Hastings and Eastbourne Town who both face Borough in November.
