A potential banana skin was avoided on Sunday morning as Eastbourne Borough Ryman 18s squad beat Horsham Crusaders 7 - 0 at Dutchells Copse.
A starting 11 showing 6 changes from Thursdays draw with Worthing started sharply and scored after 2 minutes with Jordan Astell heading in from a Max Parks cross. Six minutes later Matt Fear lobbed the Horsham stand in 'keeper from out on the left to make it 2 - 0.
The tempo requested dropped off after these 2 quick goals and although Boro kept the ball for the majority of the half and Crusaders sat back with everyone behind the ball they never really threatened. The home side won a corner late on which earned a round of applause from their crowd and from the resulting cross across the box they should really have scored.
Horsham pushed 2 up straight after the break to their credit but were caught with 2 quick goals which effectively sealed the tie. A short corner between Parks and Ryan Turner was delivered onto Astells head for his second and Alex Bralsford hit a good strike from 20 yards into the top corner.
Tom Clift cleverly flicked on a cross through to Ronnie Platt who steered his own header into the far corner after 70 and Platt grabbed another on 85 with a sharp turn and shot from inside the box.
A cracking own goal from around the penalty spot finished off the scoring but a decent run out for the lads on a very heavy pitch and we travel to Ferring in the next round.
