A very hard fought win, against arguably the best of the four sides to come up this season. St. Albans will be kicking themselves for sloppy defending that allowed Adam Watts a free header after just three minutes. If I'm honest I felt the visitors probably deserved a draw today, but the ball just wouldn't fall kindly for us either in the final third and I lost count how many times we were caught offside. No complaints about Ian Simpemba as MOM, who prevented what looked like a tap-in with a tremendous last ditch block, and always seemed to be in the right place this afternoon. I would have settled for a point against an in-form team in difficult conditions before kick-off but three is even better and the League table does look lovely with a lot of results going our way. It looks like a very open League this season, and who knows who will fill the final five places at the end of April!

Enthralling game in difficult conditions and some really good individual performances notably from ian simpemba who is worth 2 players. St albans pressed for most of the first half but I felt the game swung in our favour when aldred came on and started hoovering up the through balls to the impressive saints no 9. Walker and pacquette once again displayed fantastic work rate, also johhno who had a lot to do handling the skillfull saints winger also put in a good shift. Sam beale gets better each game and finished strongly. Mc callum seemed to find the conditions problematic for ball control but always looked a threat. Unfortunately we had the notorious mr spain as linesman and he didnt dissapoint, how that man is allowed to officiate at this level escapes me, the referee was ok but inconsistent and struggled at times but he got most things right. Good crowd in difficult conditions and wasnt it good to hear the faithful behind the goal again. Nice one lads, kudos to all of you.

Excellent 3 points today ,both teams take a lot of credit in serving up such an exciting game in awful conditions ,with greater strength all round we managed to stay the course ,Pacman was unlucky with a header that was sent behind by one of their defenders, kept going to the end ,a few seasons ago the match would never been started let alone finished ,could be a fun season ,TW may be in line for the dreaded Manager of The Month !

Just seen in the paper that we were the wettest area in Britain yesterday!(1.5 inches on the Sunshine Coast) Full marks to the club for that drainage investment a few years ago and the groundsman for the surface he has produced. Tight game v St Albans and they look top 10 side at least. I think the conditions plus linesman spoilt our chances of more goals and a bigger win more than them. As we know winning tough and ugly is all part of a successful campaign and having a stronger squad and clever substitutions worked yesterday. All looks good at present but we will have days when things go against us and we are unlikely to go unbeaten all season. So lets hope we maintain this level most of the games.

I enjoyed it apart from the weather, still can't fathom out what system is being used, Marvin Hamilton seemed to be more central? I like Foot, good signing! Sam Beal what a left back, a defender at last!

Striker, the team shape may often change even within a game - it's one of the features of the current team. Against St Albans it effectively changed three times! Marvin has played third centre-back (you could call him sweeper but it's a little more fluid than that) at Wealdstone and Concord, as well as at home. But yes, a back four with Marvin at right back is also in Tommy's repertoire. Depends on circumstances, opposition, state of the game and whether something else has changed (falling behind, picking up an injury, consolidating a lead, etc). Adapt and respond. It's a strength of the team and not a negative.

I would be very disappointed if any keeper didn't clear or sweep their lines in row Z or over the caravans as you put it!
Kevin
I am not looking for positives or negative, I am looking for reasons! We seemed to start with St Albans playing in an orthodox 4 4 2 formation, every game I have seen Hamilton play so far was either right back or right wing back.My observations and being familiar with different formations was, on Monday he changed to a more central role in defence, perhaps you can answer why?

Re- Thinking the only logical reason he was playing a central role was that he was covering the lame Adam Watts?

The reason can only have been as cover for simpemba and watts as the saints had a couple of really pacey players. We must give TW a lot of credit for this as he clearly had them watched and took appropriate action via his tactics. There wont be many sides that can shut st albans out this season.
