Even so Andrew I remember when they played their last season at the old ground, the attendance was 123, our supporters took a full coach plus cars so we must have been at least 50 in number, not much of a change?

Even so Andrew I remember when they played their last season at the old ground, the attendance was 123, our supporters took a full coach plus cars so we must have been at least 50 in number, not much of a change? My point wasn't really about attendances. It's not a terrifically well-supported club, the two separate clubs weren't either. The attendance for the Borough game was 190 apparently, so I agree the attendances haven't been vastly improved. The average was only 377 in their final Conference season and a lot of that can be put down to travelling support. But neither Hayes nor Yeading would have made it into the Conference Premier on their own. That can be solely put down to the merger. And they are competing well this season, which is what I mean about improved fortunes.

I have been a season ticket holder for many years but only this season as a poster, I must be in a different location to some as in the main stand and near its always up the borough or come on borough! But I would certainly rather stay as we are, faith in our staff and players and vocal support will take us back up again and hopefully the crowds will come back.Tommy goes right up in my book for sticking with us and his team. Anyway its dead in the water as a proposition! That comment was meant to point out that we are all teams from eastbourne with eastbourne in our names really ...... Chicken and egg I'm afraid - going up needs more money and therefore more crowds before that happens so difficult to see... Always a chance though as we are playing well at the moment. Go up. - finish low down and the crowds won't come if it's getting beat and trying to finish fourth bottom though ...... See my point?

A good topic with some interesting debate, but I really don't think that we would really gain anything from it. A successful side will get the fans returning and Tommy is making great strides in that department. EUA and ETFC would certainly have more to gain from a merger than we would IMO, so I personally don't think we should entertain such an idea.

I thinkthepiont has been slightly missed here to be fair - I'm wasn't banging the drum for a merger just letting people know id heard a whisper.

I hope tomorrow's attendance is closer to 600 than 400. On the back of JT's return, 3 goals from him and 4 points from our last 2 games, plus with Brighton being away, it'd be nice if we could get a decent crowd. Time of year won't help, but on the other hand the weather is reliable at the moment. No chance of a frozen or waterlogged pitch.

I think we have to look at this from a slightly different angle, not just 1st teams.
There will always be 1 club doing better than the others so if that is the argument then its closed before it even starts.,years ago utd were the senior club & from what i understand Langney played somewhere in Etchingham road ? or princes park.
Anyway thats beside the point
At present the town has 3 first teams,2 reserves, 3 you 18s,1 academy,3 grounds to run,3 pitches to maintain,9 kits, probably in the region of 35 coaches, staff physios etc.
Would it not be better to have 1 first team,1 reserves/development squad,1 academy,1 18s, 1 groundsman, 1 set of advertising boards, programme etc 1 very strong committee all working for Eastbourne? Surely the best of the above would only benefit Afc Eastbourne,Eastbourne FC,Eastbourne Alliance whatever you want to call them? (suggestions anyone, colours?)
Give cricket back to the saffrons, let the council have Channel view road for houses & develop the land to the back & the side of priory lane, even include the rugby club .
Any thoughts?

So what are the chances? I still can't quite get my head around this.. EUA and Town are not in direct competition with us (at the moment anyway) and how many new sponsors could we potentially gain? Would this not cause resentment more than anything? These clubs offer players the chance to play senior football at a lower level.. they therefore increase the offer of competitive football available in Eastbourne. Taking this away to secure negligible gains seems a little unnecessary? Or am I missing the point? It'll be interesting to see if this story develops further anyway.
