DEAR ALL DON,T KNOW ABOUT YOU GUYS BUT I THINK THAT WE NEED TO KEEP RIVAL SUPPORTERS IN THE HAPPY JACKS BAR. WE NOW HAVE PLASTIC GLASSES ON MATCH DAY WHICH THE POLICE HAVE REQUESTED BUT AFTER LAST WEEKEND I FOR ONE BELIEVE IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA. I GOT TO THE CLUBHOUSE AT AROUND 1.15 AND THERE WHERE ALREADY A GROUP OF AROUND EIGHT RUSHDEN SUPPORTERS SITTING NEXT TO ME AND MY FATHER WHEN AFTER CONSTANTELY SWEARING THEY DECIDED TO PUSH ONE OF THERE OWN INTO MY TABLE KNOCKING OVER ALL OUR DRINKS AND WRECKING OUR PROGRAMMES THEY THOUGHT THIS WAS HIGHLY AMUSING BUT I DIDN,T SHARE THERE VIEWS AND LET THEM KNOW. IF THESE PR1CKS HAD REPLACED OUR DRINKS THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO PROBLEM BUT ME BEING SLIGHTLY MIFFED AT THERE REPLY TO REPLACE THE DRINKS THEY HAD KNOCKED OVER I LOST THE PLOT AND THREW ME EMPTY GLASSES AT THEM..I FOR ONE AM GLAD THEY WHERE PLASTIC AND NOT GLASS AS LAST SEASON I MAY HAVE DAMAGED ONE OR MORE OF THEM..PLEASE BORO SERIOUSLY CONSIDER PUTTING THE AWAY SUPPORT IN HAPPY JACKS BEFORE A MORE SERIOUS INCIDENT OCCURES......

Sorry Gooner, you are wrong to ask this. We have managed to mix in the main bar for years now, and long may it last. I think it a tad daft to ask for this after one game, esp when you think how many away fans drank in the main bar last season and no problems.... And to make matters worse, by your own admission, you followed their behaviour and threw a glass albeit plastic. Not exactly condusive to showing an example is it ?? Leave things just the way they are!

In the ground you should report matters to the stewards. In the bar, try mentioning it to the bar staff, they are a decent lot and would probably replace it, if you are over 18!
I heard the man you mentioned and you have to learn to walk away. he was loudmouthed scum and in the end he will get his just deserts. Maybe he only saw some of the match!
I have respectfully asked people to move to oneside, so that I could view the TV screen and got a bad response! From EB supporters! You cant expect everybody to have the same manners as yourself! Rise above it and forget it. Dont dwell on it. The bar-stewards will eventually get what they deserve!

Also what could happen is less and less boro fans will use the clubhouse because of being intimidated by potential trouble- resulting in more away fans in the club than boro fans.there are clubs in this league that will bring a lot more fans than rushden did.I'm all for a 'no away fans in the bars' policy, the bar will still be busy, but the bar staff will know who is in there!

Unless this incedent becomes common place we shouldn't segregate fans, segregation might actually make thinks worse? The away fans might feel they are trearted diffrerently and that can potentially cause agro.
Anyway this sort of thing happens everyday in Eastbourne we have our fare share of w*****s in the town

Im with snellbert on this one, also what everyone is forgetting is that we are a members club (not just a football club!) so there's always the possibilty that there are people in the club that may not be there for the football. Who could forget the Kings Lynn game!!! I had friends drinking with me that day that had brought two small kids with them, not a very nice situation! We pride ourselfs on being a nice club, but we have to remember who we are now playing against, these clubs are used to segregation and i bet they dont get to drink in the home teams clubhouse!!! I think that Happy Jacks is a good idea, but then that would require two or more people to stand at the main club entrances checking membership cards!!!!

Well said Snellbert! If you do not stand upto idiots who think that they can do whatever they like, they will continue to do so and will indeed think "oh this is great! This eastbourne lot are a bunch of push-overs, you can do what the hell you want to p*ss them off and they will just sit there like a lemon! Can't wait for the next time we go down there, is going to be a right laugh!" as you said in not so many words! Idiots like this, rarely change their ways and unless they are put in their place once in a while, then they deffinately never will! The old saying about "oh don't stoop to there level" is just rubbish, do you mean to say that just chucking a plastic glass at someone who has just upset you and your family is seen as "stooping to there level" and ultimately a bad thing to do, well that is just crazy! What do you expect him to do convertedeagle, just sit there like a moron, smile and joke with the idiots "Yeah that was very good that, well done mate! I didn't really feel like the rest of my drink anyway and as for the programme that you just wrecked, who gives a crap ay? only cost me two quid! Here i'll tell you what, why don't you go get one of them sauce bottles from one of the burger outlets and pour it all over me, whilst you're having such a lovely time, annoying me and my family!" You have to stick up for yourself, and in that paticular situation, doing what he did, was just about right, but what do you do if some thug starts attacking you physically? I do not condone violence but you cannot just sit there and be a punchbag, you would have to defend yourself and you would be in your right to use self-defence as well! Now that we are in a league with a lot of ex league clubs with large fan bases, I expect we will get quite a bit more trouble from visiting fans this season, possibly a lot worse than the incident that goonerboy suffered on Saturday. Therefor I think the proposal of a seperate bar for away fans to be a good idea!

saw the incident as well. These 8 beered up Rushden supporters were all drunk and to be perfectly honest , should have been escorted out of the bar a lot earlier. Neil behind the bar was informed but to be fair he had a wall of people getting drinks and couldnt see anything. There SHOULD have been at least one steward in the bar keeping an eye what was going on but there wasn't. Perhaps there should be in future as the Eastbourne supporters were having a quiet drink watching the footy on Sky when their table was overturned by a Rushden supporter who couldnt stand up ,covering them with 4 PINTS of beer. After originally been offered to replace the drinks by one of the other Rushden lot another then piped up telling the Boro supporters to **** off trying to provoke the chap and stopped him buying them

MANY THANKS FOR YOUR REPLYS GUYS,I SUPPOSE CONVERT WOULD HAVE JUST SAT THERE AND SAID NOTHING THEN WITH HIS TROUSERS DRIPPING IN HIS OWN BEER.NEVER MIND THESE PR1CKS ONLY COST ME MONEY FOR THREE PINTS OF BEER AND TWO RUINED PROGRAMMES NOT TO MENTION SPENDING THE NEXT TWO AND A HALF HOURS IN DRIPPING JEANS. AT THE TIME I FELT LIKE RIPPING THERE HEADS OF AFTER THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE OUR DRINKS, I PERSONNELY THINK THEY GOT AWAY LIGHTLY WITH ONLY HAVING THE EMPTY GLASSES THROWN AT THEM.NEXT TIME IT MAY BE YOU !!

HI GUYS THIS RESPONCE IS TO ROBIN WHO ANSWERED MY ORIGINAL POST, WHAT WOULD YOU HAVE DONE IF YOU WAS IN MY POSITION ON SATURDAY.SITTING DOWN WATCHING THE BIG SCREEN AND HEARING SWEARING FROM A LARGE GROUP THEN HAVING YOURS AND FRIENDS BEER KNOCKED ALL OVER YOU,BEARING IN MIND THAT THE BAR WAS FULL AND NEIL SERVING DIDNOT WITNESS THIS. WHY SHOULD THE CLUB HAVE TO REPLACE MY BEER AND PROGRAMME,SURELY IT WAS UPTO THESE PR1CKS TO DO THAT. DO YOU THINK THEY WOULD OF BEEN EJECTED FROM THE BAR IF I HAD COMPLAINED( NO ) I DON,T THINK SO..DON,T MEAN TO MOAN BUT I CAN,T SEE A PROBLEM IN PUTTING THE AWAY SUPPORTERS IN HAPPY JACKS..IT ONLY TAKES A SMALL GROUP TO WRECK IT FOR EVERYONE..

You meet people like this in all bars, so you have to learn to deal with it. Like we have to put up with your writing in upper case. It's in your face. so deal with it. It will happen more with a heavy police presence, as other clubs have found out. You can try and segregate, but if they want a fight, they will find somewhere to fight. The only answer to my mind is a few stewards that are strong enough to refuse them admission. I understand a strong police presence will also cost the club as they want to get in free as well! Not sure about this, but we definately require more stewards that do a good job. I also believe they should be photographed and reported back to there own club for more long term treatment. I did this myself once with a knob and posted it on the opponents web site! Not sure that I should have, but it got the club talking! You will never stop it from happening.

I've run a pub and worked in hospitality for many years. I now manage a club bar outside Brighton which is why I cant watch hardly any Saturday home games this season A major problem is 2 words: majority, minority. All away fans want their team to win. The majority of these fans want a few beers, have a good time and a bit of banter! The minority want beers, banter and trouble. For them, alcohol is a fuel for 'stoking the furnace'. This forum contributors state many valid points. I say we want to welcome visiting team supporters to our club in enjoying their visit but equally want them to respect use of our facilities. Most other clubs I've been able to visit in past seasons; league, conference and now Blue Sq Prem use Stewards or similar to monitor and control events in and around club bars and nearby pubs as required, especially as bar management and staff are too busy serving! I'm not saying the incident with gooner would have been prevented but a quick intervention by stewards may have helped to diffuse a potential flashpoint and trouble.

It's sad to have to say so, but this is an inevitable consequence of promotion ... we have now (almost) left behind our cosy little non-League world as Blue Square National is effectively League Three, with lots of former League clubs and their supporters.
Like 'Converted Eagle' part of me would like to maintain the old ways of allowing supporters to stand alongside one another in the bar, as well as on the terraces - that's part of the joy of non-League after all. However, the pragmatic side of me accepts that if we naively allow things to carry on as before, there is likely to be trouble from time-to-time due to the odd moron looking to start a fight, or just behaving in a moronic manner! Inevitably Borough fans may be provoked despite their better judgement, rather than turn the other cheek, which is also the desired response more often than not.
Sadly then, the answer may well be a stronger stewarding presence in the bar (from trained bouncers used to dealing with such behaviour) and/or a separate bar for visiting fans.
The point that Langney Sports Club is a members' club is a valid one - visitors should have to pay a nominal sum to enter the bar and sign in as well. That may well deter visiting supporters looking for trouble / or to get plastered from entering. It just requires strong stewarding on the entrance.
One only has to look at the front page of today's Gazette, which gives column inches to the drunken idiot who was ejected on Saturday. True, it clearly says that he was a visiting 'supporter' (and not even a Rushden supporter) but I just know what the reaction is going to be from the NIMBY population in the Town, looking for any excuse to be critical. As a Club we have to be seen to be 'whiter than white' and take as many steps as reasonably possible to prevent incidents happening.

Stewards on the door or in our club house, seems sensible as does the "charging" for away fans.I don't know what the response was to the recent request for volunteer stewards, but it's not simply a question of putting on a yellow jacket, a certain amount of training is required which I understand we are doing.A sign of the times and what to expect as we move up the pyramid. As for the Gazette printing "the news"that a 16 year old was thrown out,we could have done with out that going into print for reasons already stated.
