with things looking very good behind the scenes increased sponsorship,Colin Hutchinson on board, new pitch, added coaching staff club house spruced up then I guess it is only natural that our thoughts turn toward our squad.Tradition ie how we always do things ,says that we give our existing players the chance to step up.But this is the biggest step we have taken and I for one would like to see further players added particularly at the back. It's early days and lets hope that increased sponsorship means a bigger playing budget. Time will tell.

Seeing as the first pre season friendly is on the 15th July (19 days away), I hope too that we see some further quality in the squad. I agree with Wha that this is a truly massive step up for us. It's true to form that the Club have given most of the 2007 - 8 squad an opportunity to prove themselves, but I think that our existing defence may struggle to cope with the pacey strikers in BSP. I'd feel more reassured if we were able to strengthen here. It is a national league and the players will be under more pressure due to travelling too, as well as the step up in quality. I heard that GnN may hold onto some of the players budget available to them for contingency reasons as the season develops - loans / injuries / suspensions?? Can't remember where I heard this, but interesting nonetheless.

Take last season as a yardstick - the signings who made the biggest impact weren't officially signed on this time last year. Nathan Crabb was only a trialist playing in PSFs, ditto Andy Ballard, and Darren Budd wasn't picked up until September. In comparison, the club's first summer signing, Danny Leach, snapped up in May, played barely half a dozen games. So while you might think the side needs strengthening, there is still plenty of time for it to happen.

It is four weeks since the two Lewes boys were signed and three weeks since Mo was first officially mentioned although this forum was "aware he was being looked at"before that.My question was do people agree with me that we need to strengthen and add to the squad,so although I understand the point that Andrew is making,Andrew what is your view?

I still think we need two or three new players to bolster the squad. Its only fair to let the players of last year prove themselves in the premier. But if it goes all horribly wrong in the first two or three weeks of the season we have only got until the 31st August deadline to sign anybody else. We can then have players on loan but that can cost more than signing them in the first place.
